Florida Panthers vs. Anaheim Ducks Pick – NHL March 18, 2022

The Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks meet at the Honda Center on Friday night for a matchup in California. The Panthers have won six of their previous eight games, but coming off a loss in Las Vegas.

Florida is currently on a five-game road trip with this the second stop. They failed in the first game, though the Ducks have to expect a much more determined Florida squad tonight.

The Panthers will be looking to get on back on track for their 42nd win of the season. Florida is first in the Atlantic Division with a record of 41-14-6 and 88 points.

They have a four-point advantage over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the division. The Panthers are one of three teams in the Atlantic with at least 80 points. The other two are the Lightning and Maple Leafs.

This looks like a good spot for the Panthers against a reeling Ducks squad. So much promise earlier on, but they’re going into a sinkhole recently and moving out of the playoff race.

The Ducks have regressed to 27-25-11 and 65 points. They’re third-last in the Pacific Division and taking themselves out of the hunt in a hurry. This is unfortunate for a team that was showing a turnaround from last season.

Injuries have played a role in the slide, and it doesn’t get any easier with the Ducks losing Jakob Silfverberg to the IR last week. It would help if John Gibson made a save here and there as well. He hasn’t been in the best shape in 2021-22.

Panthers vs. Ducks Prediction:

The Panthers are leading the NHL with 4.08 goals per game. The goals have followed with all of their Grade A scoring chances around opposing goaltenders.

Florida has been causing all kinds of havoc. The Panthers aren’t a team that John Gibson wanted to see at the moment. The Ducks are struggling and up next on the docket is a Panthers squad that can bury the puck in a hurry.

After a loss, expect the Panthers to come out flying at Anaheim tonight. The Panthers should take advantage of an Anaheim blueline that aren’t the most physical.

The Ducks are conceding over 3 goals per game and one of the worst teams in the NHL with 33.1 shots against per game. They’ve gotten shelled for 3.9 goals allowed per game through their past ten outings.

Gibson enters this one with a 3.05 GAA, and 0.905 save percentage. He’s been stuck recently, with at least 4 goals given up in four of his previous five and in 9 of his last 11 attempts.

Florida Panthers vs. Anaheim Ducks Betting Trends:

Panthers
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games on a back-to-back
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games on the road
  • 39-12 overall in their previous 51 games versus a team with a losing record
  • OVER is 8-3-1 in their previous 12 games on the road
  • OVER is 4-1 in their previous five games on a back-to-back
Ducks
  • 0-5 overall in their previous five games
  • 6-21 overall in their previous 27 games on a Friday
  • OVER is 11-3 in their previous 14 games as an underdog
  • OVER is 4-1 in their previous five games on two-day rest
  • OVER is 6-2 in their previous eight games versus the Atlantic Division

The Ducks are scoring 2.94 goals per game at home this season. They are going to need better to keep up with a Panthers’ offense I have confidence in tonight.

Florida has consistently been a dangerous offensive team this season. The Panthers are scoring over 4 goals per game and 3.9 goals a game through their last ten attempts.

When the Panthers are a betting favorite, they’ve been hot with 4.24 goals per game. Anaheim has allowed 4 goals in back-to-back games, 4 or more in four of their last five outings, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they give up 4 or 5 more goals tonight.

The OVER with a price better than -105 looks like a pretty good deal to me on Friday night. This looks like a bettable game on the total at the Honda Center.
