Florida Panthers vs. Arizona Coyotes Pick – NHL December 10, 2021

The Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes clash in the desert at Gila River Arena on Friday. The Coyotes will try again for their sixth win this season after dropping to 5-18-2 with a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Monday.

Most teams will put up a better fight after losing 7-1, but the Coyotes came back a few days later after their drubbing versus the Golden Knights and had another multi-goal loss.

This was their third straight loss, all by at least three goals, and their fifth loss in six games. It’s the Coyotes, but a disappointing campaign for a team that saw improvement last year.

The Coyotes finished with a respectable mark of 24-26-6 and 54 points for fifth in the West Division. There were at least signs of life and perhaps more progress could be made in 2021-22 with a full season to work with.

From their play this season, it looks like they left it all out on the ice and have nothing to give this year. Playmaking ability is seriously lacking, with only Travis Boyd and Clayton Keller having more than 5 goals on the roster.

Keller and Boyd each have 6 goals, while Lawson Crouse has 5 goals for the Coyotes. They need some help, but when a 34-year-old Phil Kessel is being depended on, that’s just not going to work in Arizona.

The Panthers are in town on a three-game road trip in the middle game. They are coming off a 4-3 loss in overtime to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night. Spencer Knight allowed 4 goals on 30 shots for a 0.867 save percentage.

You can fault the Florida offense, which put 40 shots on target in St. Louis. Despite the poor performance from Knight, the Panthers were still able to get a point out of the deal versus the Blues.

They are going into Arizona with a record of 17-4-4 and 38 points for a three-way tie with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs for the lead in the Atlantic Division. Head below for our free Panthers vs. Coyotes pick on December 10, 2021.

Panthers vs. Coyotes Prediction:

The Panthers have confirmed that Sergei Bobrovsky is getting the start between the pipes in Arizona tonight. That’s a big lift for a team that may have won in St. Louis if he started.

Spencer Knight’s performance didn’t inspire much confidence. After finding it difficult to get on track early in his career in Sunrise, Bobrovsky has been turning a corner with the Panthers.

He signed an expensive contract and the Panthers thought they had their guy. However, a 3.23 GAA and 2.91 GAA the last two years wasn’t living up to the hype.

He’s taken a lofty step forward, as Bobrovsky is going into tonight with a 2.41 GAA and 0.92 save percentage. Bobrovsky must stay on track for the Panthers to continue going at this rate.

The offense is one of the best in the NHL, as they’ve put in an average of 3.8 goals per game for second best. Florida leads the league with 36.8 shots per game.

Florida Panthers vs. Arizona Coyotes Betting Trends:

  • 7-3 overall in their previous ten games
  • 40-13 overall in their previous 53 games as a favorite
  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games versus the Central Division
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games on two-day rest
  • OVER is 4-0 in their previous four games as a favorite

  • 1-9 overall in their previous ten games versus the Eastern Conference
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games as an underdog
  • 3-13 overall in their previous 16 games at Gila River Arena
  • 21-46 overall in their previous 67 games on three-day rest
  • 6-21 overall in their previous 27 games versus a team with a winning percentage better than 60%

The Panthers have improved considerably on defense, and it helps that Bobrovsky is playing closer to his potential finally. They are 12th in the NHL with 2.8 goals and 31 shots against per game.

That’s what the Panthers have been missing over the last couple of years. They don’t have to be a top tier unit to win a lot of games with how dangerous their offense can be. Florida should look top tier versus this anemic Arizona offense, though.

The Coyotes are last in the NHL with an average of 1.8 goals scored per game. They are 32nd in shots as well with only an average of 25.3 put on net per game. The same can be said for their power play, which ranks last in the league, too.

Don’t count on the Coyotes’ defense to hold the Panthers at bay either. Arizona has conceded 3.6 goals per game for 30th in the NHL, and can’t kill penalties with a kill rate of just 72%. Scott Wedgewood has been confirmed in net for the Yotes.

Wedgewood has been very mediocre with a 2.96 GAA and 0.908 save percentage. I don’t know what else can be expected playing on this team, though. He doesn’t get the best support.

If the Panthers care they should be fine in Arizona. They probably will after a loss in St. Louis on Tuesday. I’m on the Panthers for a 2 or 3-goal win at Gila River Arena.
