Hurricanes vs. Bruins Game 2 Pick – NHL May 12th

The Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins meet for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final on Saturday, as the Bruins look to go up 2-0 and get two wins closer to going to the Stanley Cup Final. The Bruins look like a favourite right now to win it all with the Hurricanes still playing the underdog role. I know the Hurricanes aren’t an expansion team, but their run feels similar to what the Golden Knights did last season.

No one had this squad going to the playoffs let alone playing for a chance to win the Stanley Cup. They are playing with house money, but the Bruins may take their money here and send them packing. Don Cherry is not going to be bothered by that happening certainly. Boston have the most complete team in the playoffs, with a pretty efficient offense and stingy defence.

At this point in the game, both are required to do some damage. Getting physical helped the Bruins get by in Game 1. It was a close game that quickly turned into an easy win by the Bruins. That’s what a physical team can do as a game progresses. It isn’t easy to go 60 minutes with a team who aren’t shy to rough you up.

The Hurricanes found out pretty quickly that Boston are not going to be pushed around. Lehner did all he could to save the Islanders but now the Hurricanes have to deal with another hot goaltender. Rask has been terrific and is ultimately going to what I feel is going to be the difference maker. It has only been one game, though, so we’ll see if the Hurricanes can steal home ice advantage with a win and get a split on Saturday. Head below for our free Hurricanes vs. Bruins Game 2 pick.

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Boston Bruins Game 2 Pick:

The Hurricanes are going to need to steal a game in Boston to get to the Stanley Cup Final so it may as well happen now. As the deeper this series gets, I think it is going to get even more difficult to win at TD Garden. The Bruins are a team who have been through the ringer when it comes to pressure situations. They’re a clutch group that can win when it matters most. So, if the Hurricanes are hoping to win later on in this series, it’s likely not going to go so well. Put a bit of pressure on the Bruins and make them work for it in Raleigh. There is going to be a ton of energy for Game 3 and 4.

However, the Canes may very well be down 2-0 and needing to win both games at home. The Bruins are a difficult team to beat in Boston and I don’t know what the Hurricanes can so here to get under the skin of Rask. Petr Mrazek has been solid down the stretch for Carolina, but he is not performing at the same level as Rask, nor is he playing at 100 percent.
The Hurricanes weren’t even sure if Mrazek would be playing in that game. Goaltending is so important this time of the season and Rask holds a considerable edge over the Carolina netminding in my opinion. I see it being the difference in what should be a close contest, though the Bruins ultimately edge the Hurricanes out and jump out ahead with a 2-0 series lead going to Raleigh.
