It’s been one kind of unfavorable year for the Dallas Stars. Stacked with plenty of talent, the Stars have found it difficult to find any tractions in the 2016-17 season. Little has been working out for them, as they come into tonight below .500 with a record of 21-24-3. All that they did to improve their defence last season has gone out the window, reverting to their leaky ways on the defensive end of the ice. You’re not going to win many games when 3 goals a game is getting pumped into the back of the net. Our NHL picks have been hot, let’s keep it that way this afternoon in Dallas.
This is what hurt them in the 2014-15 season, but they were still able to muster up a record of 41-31-10. It wasn’t good enough to reach the playoffs though, as they barely missed out. They did what they had to do the following year and improved the defence. The Stars ultimately lost to the Blues, 4-3 in the postseason. It was a close call but they weren’t able to capitalize on their regular season success.
The Stars have a lot of work to do if they just want to become remotely close to competing for a playoff spot. Realistically, things are looking pretty faint for them and it’s just not a good look considering the talent they have on this team. Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza all have nothing going for them this season. Spezza especially needs to get things in motion, but he just hit the IR with an upper-body injury and is going to be of no assistance on the shelf.
Spezza has just 8 goals and 23 assists this season, as there are major signs of his career screeching to a halt. Seguin owns 20 goals and 31 assists, while Benn has 17 goals and 30 assists, way off his 41 goal mark from a year ago. The Stars will welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Dallas tonight, who are on the opposite end side with a record of 24-21-3. It’s to be expected for the Canes, but the Stars are lost up the creek without a paddle. Get our exclusive pick below, as we look to improve on our 7-2 NHL picks for the month of February.
Carolina Hurricanes vs. Dallas Stars Pick
The Hurricanes and Stars have had their fair share of ups and downs this season. It’s been a topsy-turvy campaign for both, with winning streaks and losing streaks marring their campaigns. The Stars are in the midst of a four-game losing streak, including a 2-7 record in their last nine attempts. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes saw three straight wins before it was snapped against the Washington Capitals in a 5-0 blowout. The Hurricanes will be taking the trip down south to Texas after they had a couple of road games already before here against the Isles and Caps.
The Canes have been dreadful on the road, as they enter Dallas with a record of 7-15-3. Their saving grace is the potent home record of 17-6-0. They’ve been a different team on the road, though. The Stars have been okay at home with a mark of 14-9-5. The Stars have allowed 3.60 goals per game in their last ten games, but the Hurricanes have been getting torched with 3.80 goals given up in their last ten games. They’ve also scored just 2.40 goals per game. While the defence has eroded, the Stars still managed to score 3.10 goals in their last ten games. This looks like a fine opportunity for the Stars to break out of their funk. Give me the Stars for Saturday, as we anticipate keeping our NHL picks rolling strong.
