The NFL is set up with another great week of action in Week 5. Twelve games will be up on the board throughout Sunday. One of these games will be between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. These two teams have struggled recently to start out this season and will be will look to bounce back. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.
The Jaguars have started off the season with a record of 1-3 throughout this season, which has them in third place of the AFC South. Jacksonville finished last season with a record of 6-10, which had them in last place of the AFC South. The Jaguars will look to bounce back with a big win in Week 5 after losing last week.
Houston had a tough start to the season earning an 0-4 record, which has them in last place of the AFC South. The Texans earned a record of 10-6 last season, which had them in first place of the AFC South. Houston has put up a poor record so far this season, which they will look to turn around before the season is too late. The Texans will look to earn their first win after firing Bill O’Brien.
These two teams have not been good throughout the beginning of the season. Both teams will look to earn a big win against their division rival on Sunday afternoon. I expect these two teams to try and get the lead early as they look for a big win. If the Texans can finally break through early, it could be enough to get their first win of the season.
The Jaguars and the Texans met up twice throughout last season, including a game on Week 2 in Houston. DeShaun Watson had a running touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give the Texans a 13-3 lead. Gardner Minshew thew a touchdown pass to D.J. Chark late in the fourth. Jacksonville went for two with a chance to win it but fell short 13-12 as Houston won.
The second meeting of the season series was on Week 9 in Jacksonville. The Jaguars offense could not get things going in this one. Deshaun Watson threw two touchdown passes, while Duke Johnson Jr. ran for another. The Texans were able to dominate their division rival on the road with an impressive 26-3 win in Week 9.
Last week, the Jaguars met up with the Cincinnati Bengals. Gardner Minshew threw two touchdown passes, both to D.J. Chark. Jacksonville still could not come up with the win though. Joe Mixon had a receiving touchdown, while rushing for two other touchdowns. The Bengals were able to earn their first win of the season with a 33-25 win.
Houston faced the Minnesota Vikings at home last week. Deshaun Watson threw for two touchdowns in this one. Dalvin Cook was able to find the endzone twice on the ground. Kirk Cousins had a passing touchdown, while Alexander Mattison had another rushing touchdown. The Vikings earned their first win of the new season with a 31-23 victory over the Texans.
Gardner Minshew has become a solid starting Quarterback for the Jaguars. Minshew finished out last season with a record of 6-6 in his starts. He threw for 3271 yards, 21 touchdowns and 6 interceptions during last season. This season Minshew has thrown for 1138 yards, 8 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Minshew will look to step up against his division rival.
Deshaun Watson has developed into one of the best young Quarterbacks in the NFL for the Texans. Watson was able to throw for 3852 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions throughout last season. He also ran for 413 yards and 7 touchdowns. This season Watson has thrown for 1092 yards, 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
These two Quarterbacks have proven themselves as solid starting QB’s. Both QB’s have had starts under center this season but will have a chance to bounce back in this divisional matchup. The Texans have not played in their division yet this season, while Jacksonville has played the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. The Jaguars will look to earn another win in their division on Sunday.
Jacksonville has struggled on offense throughout this season. The Jaguars have put up 95 points throughout this season, which is 23rd in the NFL. Jacksonville has only gained 1468 yards of offense, which is 18th in the league. The Jaguars have allowed 117 points and 1598 yards on defense, which are both 23rd in the league.
The Texans offense has been doing very poor throughout the new season. Houston has only scored 80 points and gained 1310 yards, which is 29th and 26th in the NFL this season. The Texans have allowed 126 points on defense, which is 27th in the league. Houston has allowed opposing teams to gain 1573 yards, which is 22nd in the NFL.
These two offenses have struggled this season, which has not helped their defense either. The Jaguars offense has been a bit better, but neither offense has an advantage in this one in my opinion. The Texans are playing their first game under Romeo Crennel, which could help revitalize the offense and defense. If Houston’s offense can step up this week, it could help them earn their first victory.
The Jaguars and the Texans will look to get big wins after struggling early in this season. After firing Bill O’Brien a week ago, I believe that Houston will look like a new team. I expect the Texans to take control of this game early on a struggling Jacksonville team. If Houston can finally bounce back, they could earn their first win of the new season.
BetOnline has the Texans listed as a -5 against the spread in this one. This gives a solid edge to Houston over the Jaguars. I agree with this spread as the Texans have underperformed this season in my opinion. If Houston can step up on Sunday afternoon, I expect them to runaway with a solid victory over their division rival.
