Happy New Years to all! Today and tomorrow is dominated by hockey, but there is still hockey tonight as well as the Winter Classic tomorrow. There are a handful of games in the NHL tonight. If college football isn’t your thing, then maybe you’ll try your luck betting on pucks. The Washington Capitals staged an impressive come from behind win last night over the Buffalo Sabres. What looked like might have been a Sabres’ victory, quickly turned into a blowout win in favor of the Capitals. Never discount the Capitals, as the final score is no indication of how the game was going on in the early goings. Some people want to say that the Capitals are chokers, but just appreciate what they are doing right now. We’ll worry about the playoffs in a few months. Tonight we go down to the desert in Arizona for the Jets and Coyotes. All the way up north in Winnipeg to all the way down south in Arizona. The Jets are coming from home in Winnipeg after a 4-1 win over the Red Wings. They put together a couple of nice wins in a row, the other coming against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Jets are a team in flux, you don’t know if they are coming of going. It feels like they have been .500 all season long, with no fluctuations. If anything, the Jets have been consistent in that sense.
In a lot of ways, we can say the same thing about the Coyotes. They’ve been flirting around .500 throughout the season, and haven’t completely established themselves as a contender, nor have they played like a bad team necessarily. The Yotes will have their spots and then they will have their off nights. The life of a mediocre team in the NHL. Arizona is coming off a high scoring game against the Chicago Blackhawks, a game that resulted in a 7-5 loss. Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for the Coyotes this season, but stopping other teams has been a bit of a chore. Shane Doan tied the Coyotes goal record against the Blackhawks and will look to break it tonight against the Jets. Doan is one of the finer players in the league on and off the ice, but has never been able to be in any kind of spotlight playing in Arizona. Nevertheless, we can’t take away what has been a good career with the Coyotes. Let’s head into 2016 with a winner on the ice.
Winnipeg Jets vs. Arizona Coyotes NHL Pick
The Jets impressively made the playoffs a season ago. I don’t think many people thought the Jets were going to do anything with their chance, but they did have a successful season by just making the postseason. Here in 2015-16 they have some work to do, as they head into the desert with a record of 17-17-1. I don’t know where the Jets are going to end up by seasons end. But given the first few months, they will be a .500 team, they haven’t moved from there much. Tonight, though, it looks like the Jets will move off .500, either in the win or loss column. In their last ten games what do you think they went? Yeah you guessed it, the Jets were 5-5.
I have a problem with the price in this game. The Jets as -125 or -130 favorites depending where you have the game at, looks a little off to me. I think the Coyotes should be slight favorites here. The Jets have not been very good at all playing away from home. It makes sense, as they need to do quite a bit of travelling from up there in Winnipeg. The Jets enter with a record of 6-12-1 on the road. Conversely, the Coyotes have a respectable record of 9-6-2 at home. I don’t think the Jets are going to be too motivated to play in this one tonight, on the road, on New Years Eve in Arizona. I need to take advantage of what I see is value with the Coyotes.
