Kings vs. Ducks Pick – NHL February 27th

Do the LA Kings have your attention now? After a relatively slow start of the season for the Kings, they’ve caught fire lately and have been on a roll. I don’t think many people had any doubts about the Kings making the playoffs, but just a few weeks ago it looked like they were going to have to fight to make it in. As we have seen in the past, it doesn’t seem to matter what seed the Kings get they’re going to be major players in the playoffs regardless. They are now on a eight game win streak and most importantly, the defense has finally began to showcase itself as the best in the NHL. During this stretch of wings, the Kings have made it extremely tough on opposing teams to get their offense in gear. That is the kind of hockey we expect from the Kings, and what I think we are going to see from them for the rest of the season and playoffs. They just looked bored out there in the first-half of the season. Call it a bit of a hangover from last season, which is to be expected, but they didn’t look anything like they do at the moment. They have been beating some heavyweights as well. The Kings haven’t been beating up on cream puffs. Note that they heat the Lightning twice, Capitals, Sharks, and Red Wings.

People are giving up on the Ducks I think this season. Not in the sense that their season is over, but no one is going to get sucked into the hype this time around in the playoffs. Every year you’ll find a lot of people that have the Ducks making it to the finals, but the result is the same, they choke. People throw the word choke around too much to describe teams losing games, but simply put, the Ducks have been chokers given the success they have in the regular season. Come the playoffs though, they fade off without much resistance. Is this year going to be any different? Well for one they haven’t had as good of a regular season as they usually do. Maybe that will work in their favour, because lately, playing well during this time of year hasn’t exactly worked out for them

L.A. Kings @ Anaheim Ducks

For the Kings to win another Cup, this is the way they’ll have to be playing in the playoffs. This is actually how we witnessed them play during those two runs. They are a streaky team, a streaky team that hits winning streaks at the right times. As I said, weeks ago there were grumblings that the Kings may not even make the playoffs. Now they are the hottest team in the league. The defense has shown up in a big way, in this eight game win streak the Kings have allowed an average of under 2 goals per game throughout. Due to a slow start they are giving up 2.46 goals overall, but I thought their defense was going to show up to the party eventually. That is what we are seeing now from the Kings. The offense has been quite good as well, scoring 2.80 times per game.

The Ducks have found themselves lacking in the goal scoring department and lacking on the defensive side. They have an overall record of 38-17-2-5, but have been lackluster in their last ten games. The Ducks enter with a record of 4-6 their last ten games and statistically it hasn’t been pretty for them. In those ten games they’ve allowed 3.30 goals per game while scoring only 2.40 a game on opposing teams. I’m going to ride the Kings here and their red hot play lately.
