Kings vs. Sharks Pick – NHL February 21st

Was anybody worried that the L.A. Kings weren’t going to be around during playoff time? There is still time for them to finish out of it, but by the way they are playing now it looks like they are going to be a pest to deal with for opposing teams once again when the real season begins. The Kings are beginning to pick it up at just the right time and now position themselves as one of the favorites in the NHL. If the Kings make the playoffs, let alone the seed, we have to consider them a threat. Considering what they’ve done before without high seeding, it is always possible for the Kings to catch fire and be taking the Stanley Cup home with them again for the summer. It will be hard to secure a third Cup in so many years, however, we can’t discount them. If they do it, are the Kings a dynasty? They remind me a bit of the New York Giants football team. They weren’t relevant during the regular season, but snuck in to win a couple of Super Bowls. Even with the two Super Bowls, did the Giants get much credit for their accomplishments? It seems to be a lot of people think they were fluky. I mean, that David Tyree catch on the helmet was kind of fluky, but they were still the best team in the NFL at that time. The Kings have a chance to one-up the Giants and win their third Cup in such a short window. Just like the Giants found out, it isn’t easy to do. However, there is no reason to believe the Kings couldn’t do it.

They make the short trek to San Jose to play the Sharks who are still searching for a Stanley Cup. They have had the talent to do it, but have never been able to pull it altogether in the playoffs. They’ve been going through a rough stretch of games, while the Kings have been catching fire, just like I thought they would at the right time. The Kings have been doing it not with a suffocating defense. The offense has really stepped it up and performed of late. Note that during those two Stanley Cup runs, it actually was the offense that stole the show and propelled them in the post-season. The Kings’ offense looks on point again here lately and look playoff ready. In our pick last night, the Bruins looked completely lost again, getting blown out by the St. Louis Blues this time around. It isn’t as bad as losing to the Oilers, but not even putting up a fight last night was quite discouraging for their chances moving forward. The Blues broke through for 4 goals in the 2nd period and were able to cruise to a 5-1 victory. The OVER 5.5 cashed for us which is the main thing. Let’s go after another winner tonight in the late night affair on Hockey Night in Canada.

L.A. Kings @ San Jose Sharks

Tale of two teams in this one tonight. The Kings have been lights out while the Sharks have been a little anaemic. The Sharks are a good team, but haven’t we seen inconsistency out of them before? We have seen it too much, and it is why this team can’t make it very far in the playoffs. Inconsistency isn’t the recipe for success at that time in the season. The Kings are winners of their last six games and have done it in rather convincing fashion. In that six game stretch LA averaged 3.8 goals per game, quite good. And the defense has looked good as well, allowing only 2 goals per game. A good goal to goals against ratio that will definitely win some games. The Sharks are a team that run hot and cold, and right now they are in the midst of one of those dry spells. In their last ten games they’re just 3-7. In those ten games their defense really let them down. They let in a whopping 3.6 goals per game. They were scoring 3.10, but when you allow 3.6 it really doesn’t matter how many goals the offense is scoring.

I have to ride the hot team here. A team that I trust against a team that can be one of the most frustrating to bet on night to night. I had a feeling the Kings were going to turn it up eventually and that is what we are seeing now. I will take the L.A. Kings to take their win streak to seven games, while the Sharks should continue to struggle. This isn’t the most gruelling road trip for the Kings and I like them even better for that reason. We can’t ignore the Kings at -110 considering the way they are executing.

Pick – KINGS TO WIN -110 @ (Best Odds)
