Wild vs. Kings – NHL October 19th

I attended the Wings/Leafs game last night in Detroit, so didn’t catch much of the Islanders and Penguins game. Before I go any further though..thanks for the nice birthday present, Leafs. Enough of the Leafs and back to handicapping. The Penguins had around 15 1st period shots when I took a look on my phone and they had no goals, knew it was going to be one of those games. The Pens ended up with 38 shots and the Isles winded up with 35! 73 shots total and only 4 goals. That’s the gambling aspect of handicapping for you, though. Solid handicapping will give you more winners than losers in the long run and that is what we’re after.

L.A. Kings @ Minnesota Wild

Note the early start time in this game, 3:00PM eastern. I know most of you will be watching football, and so will I, but I’m going to keep my eye on this one. I was originally going to take a pass on the NHL schedule today. However, after taking a closer look at this game I had to pull the trigger. The Minnesota Wild have been one of the better UNDER wagers in recent memory the past couple of years, and conversely, the Kings have been as well. The Wild have gotten off a torrid start on the defensive end, starting off their first two games of the season not allowing a goal. They surrendered 2 goals in their last game, but it still fell UNDER the number with a final score 0f 2-1. Consequently, they are 3-0 to the UNDER to start the year off. Note that the Wild are allowing only 0.67 goals per game so far this season.

If there is any team that can match the Wild defensively, it would be the Kings. While the Wild are 3-0 to the UNDER, the Kings are 2-1. In their last three games they’ve only given up 2 goals as well, just like Minnesota. In their last matchup against the Blues, the game had to go to a shootout before the first goal was scored. I see the Kings matching up with the Wild in similar fashion. On the year the Kings are allowing 1.80 goals per game. Marion Gaborik is listed as questionable for Sunday afternoon, a guy that has been their offensive energy. The UNDER is 3-0-2 in their last five meetings. If this game ends up making sense it’ll be a low scoring affair. I am sure you agree with me after reading this writeup. Most money today will be on the NFL, but if you are looking for something different, take a look at the UNDER 5 in LA.
