I got back on the winning track with an easy UNDER pick in the Wild and Kings game on Sunday afternoon. With only one card on the NHL last night, I took the night off and let MNF take center stage instead. Tonight I go back to a bet that looks familiar from Saturday night involving the New York Islanders. The Leafs are going to face a drastic change in styles after a couple of games against the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings are happy with sitting back and playing defense, but the Islanders are going to force the puck tonight. Lets see if we can hammer home a winner tonight.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ N.Y. Islanders
The Leafs have gotten off to a start that is reminiscence to how they finished up the season, disappointment and losses. Frustration is boiling over as it has become a nightly occurrence for a Leaf fan to toss his jersey over the glass onto the ice in an act of repulsiveness over the teams lack of success. The Islanders on the other hand have started off hot, a better start than maybe even they thought. Despite losing their first game on Saturday to the Penguins, the Isles still looked good, even giving the Pens a good scare. A win against the Leafs would propel them to a 5-1 on the year. Offensively this is a good matchup for the Islanders, playing against a Leafs’ team that continues to play lazy defense. Toronto better look out, as the Islanders have had one of the best offenses to start the year in the NHL. They are averaging 3.80 goals per game which is 2nd in the NHL, trailing only the Penguins, which is frustrating to note because we couldn’t get the game to go over between those two on Saturday. The Islanders will have an easier time having an attack in the offensive end though against the Leafs. Toronto is allowing 3.17 goals a game, 20th in the league.
I have a feeling that the Leafs are going to have to get their offense going in this game to keep up. The Isles are letting in their fair share of goals as well, 3 per game, 19th in the NHL, so the opportunity should present itself. Note that both teams are both allowing over 30 shots against per game, and are hitting the net on offense over 30 times per tilt. Here is a fun trend as well, the Leafs and Islanders have gone OVER the number in their last eight games against each other. In addition, the OVER is 9-1 in their last 10 games. If you like to bet trends, then this is the game for you because at the moment this is one of the better ones out there in sports. I’ll take my chances and bank on us seeing enough goals to push it OVER the total of 5.5.
