The Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis Blues come together for a meeting between two of the hottest starting teams in the NHL. The Lightning have gotten off to a fast start, while the Blues have trended that way as well. The Bolts at 21-6-1 and the Blues at 21-8-2. That’s what a healthy Steven Stamkos can do for a team. Stamkos had been fighting through injuries, but he’s looked fine this season and the results on the ice prove it.
He has scored 12 goals and 30 assists, including an impressive +/- rating of 10. If he can stay healthy throughout the entire season, we can expect the Lightning to be major players in the playoffs. Nikita Kucherov has also put this team over the top. He scored 40 goals a year ago, but already has netted 20 and we’re not even at the halfway mark. With that 1-2 punch between Stamkos and Kucherov, good luck trying to slow them down. Not too many teams have been able to do it, but the Blues will counter with some talent of their own.
Brayden Schenn leads the Blues into Tuesday night, with 37 points, tops on the team. Tarasenko has had a nice year as well, notching 14 goals and 17 assists. It should make for an exciting matchup between him and fellow Russian, Nikita Kucherov. Tarasenko is coming off a trio of nice games, where he scored a couple of goals and a couple of assists.
Defenceman, Alex Pietrangelo, is questionable to play tonight. He missed the Blues last game against the Buffalo Sabres, a 3-2 win in favor of St. Louis. They were also without Jaden Schwartz, who will reportedly miss up to 6 weeks with an ankle injury. The Blues still have talent to go around, but his loss for that long does sting. Head below for our free Lightning vs. Blues pick.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. St. Louis Blues Pick
Our winning streak unfortunately came to an end last night at nine games. Ten would have been a nice milestone, but I will certainly take that. We look to get back in the win column tonight in St. Louis. Both of these squads are on four-game winning streaks. The Lightning are on the heels of a 4-3 overtime win over the Jets, while the Blues won in overtime as well, a 3-2 win over the Sabres.
The Lightning have been getting tremendous production out of their offence throughout this entire season. On the year, they’ve averaged 3.75 goals per game, which puts them in 1st in the NHL. During their four-game winning streak, they scored 5 goals per game. There isn’t much defences can do to defend a team with Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. It isn’t just them either, the Lightning are packed with depth and any line is capable of finding the back of the net.
The Blues have been finding the back of the net with an average of 3.29 goals per game. Not quite like the Bolts, but good enough for 6th in the NHL in the goal scoring department. They have scored 4 per during their last four games, so both offences have been lighting the red light frequently lately and all season long. It’s kind of difficult to bet against these offences at the moment. They played to a 2-1 final in October, but things should open up in the second meeting. Let’s get back on the winning trail with a pick on the OVER in St. Louis for this star-studded matchup.
PICK: OVER 5.5 (-110)
