The Tampa Bay Lightning continue their west coast trip against the Anaheim Ducks tonight. The Lightning fell to the LA Kings in their last game, 3-2, and will look to play like they did against the San Jose Sharks tonight. In that game, that kicked off their west coast tour, the Lightning took care of the Sharks easily by a score of 5-2. The Kings who need to get it going now edged them out in the following game. That brings us to tonight, where two very good teams will clash in Anaheim. The Lighting have all the makings of doing damage in the NHL playoffs. However, finding them as a Stanley Cup favorite with most people is hard to find. I can’t blame anybody for not believing in the Lightning in the playoffs. They have extremely talented teams in the past with Stamkos on board and they just simply couldn’t do anything in the playoffs. Now here we are again, plenty of talent on the Lightning, but can they put it all together when it really matters in April. With a team like the Kings who came out of no where a few years back in the playoffs, it is hard today to judge regular season play in relation to the playoffs.
The Ducks are another team that have been favorites to make it deep in the playoffs the past few seasons, actually, a lot of people had them hoisting the Cup last season. Needless to say things did not work out for the Ducks, and like the Lightning, will have a chance soon to redeem themselves in the playoffs. Both of them have a legitimate shot at making it to the end. Tonight we’ll get a taste of both the Ducks and Lightning in action against one another. Last night was an easy winner. Thankfully it was easy after that mess in the Bruins game the night before. The Penguins struggles against the Capitals continued last night, as the offense has scored only 1 goal on the Caps this season. That came last night, and it wasn’t enough to beat Washington, as they pulled away for a 3-1 victory. Let’s look to make it two winning NHL picks in a row in Anaheim.
Tampa Bay Lightning @ Anaheim Ducks
Steven Stamkos really doesn’t want to be one of the best players in the NHL to never win a Stanley Cup. I think this season and the next couple are critical if he wants to make that happen. He is in the prime of his career and has a good opportunity at leading his team to a Stanley Cup in this window. They can’t disappear in the playoffs again, it is really as simple as that. Stamkos has put the Lightning in a position where they own the best offense in the NHL with regards to goals per game. At 3.20 goals a game the Lightning are 1st in the league in scoring. In their last ten games they’ve exceeded that slightly, averaging 3.30 goals in those games. The Ducks have really been struggling defensively lately, so they are there for the taking.
In the Ducks last ten games they have allowed an average of 3.5 goals against. In six of their last ten games they allowed 4 or more goals. They do have a chance at a Cup, but at 19th in the NHL in defense, they will need to do much better in that department. They have a good offense, but not good enough to make up for giving up over 3 goals a game. Offensively they are 11th in the NHL, so they are looking from the outside in on the top 10 in the NHL at the moment. When I look at the price in this game I think to myself and go hm. Should the Lightning really be at +120 against the Ducks? I know they are on a road trip, but I don’t know about that. I feel like I am falling hook line and sinker with this pick, but at +120 the Lightning are too hard to ignore coming off a loss.
