Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers Pick – NHL December 5, 2021

The Los Angeles Kings are in Edmonton on Sunday evening for a date with the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place. The Kings are on the road for the next two games after a seven-game homestand.

They are on a back-to-back in Edmonton and Vancouver. Following this stop in Edmonton, the Kings head to Vancouver for Monday night against the Canucks. The Kings are hitting par for the course with a record of 9-9-4.

LA started off well this season, but they’ve been on a cold spot over the last a couple of weeks. The Kings are heading into tonight with losses in seven of their last eight games. In their most recent outing, the Kings had a 3-2 loss at the Staples Center to the Flames.

They haven’t had a win since defeating the lowly Ottawa Senators on November 27, 4-2. Before going cold, the Kings had wins in seven straight games. It looked like for a minute that the Kings were ready to turn a big corner this season.

They’re back down to earth, but if you were to ask me where the Kings would be at this point in the season, I’d say around .500. That wouldn’t be bad for a team that went 21-28-7 last season, and 29-35-6 a season earlier in 2019-20.

The Oilers are coming off a 4-3 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Thursday. That ended a three-game winning streak following a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. They are dealing with injuries on the blueline, with four members of their defense on the injury report.

There is a chance that Darnell Nurse does return tonight, though. Put an above average defense on the Oilers and they would be my favorite team in the NHL. They are just too inconsistent at the moment. Head below for our free Kings vs. Oilers pick on December 5, 2021.

Kings vs. Oilers Prediction:

The Oilers have all of the offense that they could need to compete with the top teams in the NHL. Connor McDavid and Leon Drasaitl are the most feared combo in the league.

McDavid has scored 16 goals and 26 assists, while Draisaitl is going into tonight with 21 goals and 22 assists.

They have guided the Oilers to an average of 3.8 goals scored per game. They are third in the NHL in goal scoring, and are even better in Edmonton at Rogers Place.

Edmonton has put in an average of 4.3 goals per game at home. I don’t have the most faith in the Kings slowing down the Oilers off a loss.

In five of the Oilers’ last six games, they’ve scored at least 3 goals. Their power play has been deadly this season, and the penalty kill isn’t something that has been a positive.

The Oilers are best in the NHL with a staggering goal rate of 35.3%. Conversely, the Kings are 27th in the league with a penalty kill success rate of 74.5%.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers Betting Trends:

  • 1-7 overall in their previous eight games
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games versus the Oilers
  • Visiting team is 6-21 in their previous 27 games versus the Oilers
  • OVER is 4-2 in their previous six games
  • OVER is 5-0 in their previous five games on two-day rest

  • 6-0 overall in their previous six games at Rogers Place
  • 5-0 overall in their previous five games versus the Kings at Rogers Place
  • OVER is 4-0 in their previous four games as a favorite
  • OVER is 7-3 in their previous ten games versus the Western Conference
  • OVER is 8-1 in their previous nine games as a favorite at Rogers Place

The Oilers 29th in the NHL with 34 shots against per game. They have to be more physical in the defensive zone and force giveaways. Edmonton is losing battles in their zone too often. It’s not going to work in the playoffs.

They have conceded 3 goals per game for 18th in the NHL. The Kings have been cold recently, but they are generating shots and chances. Through the 2021-22 campaign going into tonight, the Kings are fourth in the league with 35.2 shots per game.

There should be more than enough chances to score in this one. The Oilers are first in shots, while the Kings are fourth. The OVER is 3-1 in the Oilers last four outings. The total has gone OVER in three of the Kings last four attempts as well.

If you are looking for an NHL play on Sunday evening, I would recommend considering looking at the OVER at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
