Minnesota Wild vs. Edmonton Oilers Pick – NHL December 7, 2021

The Minnesota Wild and Edmonton Oilers meet at Rogers Place for what should be an entertaining game in Edmonton. The Wild are coming off a 4-3 win in a shootout over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

They were coming off a 5-2 win over the Coyotes and Devils. The offense has been playing well, and the Wild are up to 17-6-1 and 35 points for the lead in the Central Division. They have a seven-point lead on the Colorado Avalanche for the lead. Impressive stuff from the Wild.

It’s not going to mean anything if the Wild don’t show up when it matters most in the spring. They’ve been unable to get over the hump in the past in the playoffs. Minnesota always seems to run into a wall when it comes to playoff time.

Playing well in the first-half of the season is too common for Wild fans, so they remain cautiously optimistic. So far so good from this team, though, and they’ve been entertaining to watch as well. The Wild are winning style.

They face a stingy test against the Oilers tonight. Edmonton is coming off a lackluster effort against the LA Kings in a 5-1 loss on Sunday. That was not like the Oilers. They looked disinterested and only put 22 shots on Jonathan Quick.

That’s not like the Oilers, especially at home where the Oilers are usually flying around the ice. This is their second straight loss against beatable opponents. They were coming off a 4-3 loss to the Seattle Kraken.

Expect the Oilers to put a better game together for the Wild. I don’t think we’re going to see something like Sunday where the Oilers just went through the motions.

In any case, they are still in a solid position with a record of 16-7-0 and 32 points. They trail the Flames by three points in the Pacific Division after a hot start this season.

Wild vs. Oilers Prediction:

The Oilers are going to have to put in more in their opponent’s defensive zone if they’re going to bet the Wild tonight. It has been an uncharastically bad couple of games from the Oilers.

They scored only 2 goals versus the Kraken, and then a goal against the Kings on Sunday. Jonathan Quick had an easy night for the most part.

He had to expect around 35 shots from the Oilers, but the Oilers didn’t get up for the Kings. With the Wild on tap, expect the Oilers to be motivated to play well tonight.

The Oilers are much better than we saw against the Kraken and Kings, especially offensively. Edmonton is fourth in the NHL with 3.65 goals scored per game.

They are first in the league with a power play scoring at a clip of 34.3% clip. Their strong power play wasn’t even working versus a bad Kings’ penalty kill on Sunday.

Minnesota Wild vs. Edmonton Oilers Betting Trends:

Wild

  • 6-0 overall in their previous six games
  • 4-1 in their previous five games versus the Western Conference
  • 6-1 overall in their previous seven games on two-day rest
  • OVER is 6-0 in their previous six games after a win
  • OVER is 8-1 in their previous nine games versus a team with a winning record

Oilers

  • 6-1 overall in their previous seven games as a favorite at Rogers Place
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games versus the Central Division
  • OVER is 8-1-1 in their previous ten games as a favorite at Rogers Place
  • OVER is 7-1 in their previous eight games after scoring less than 2 goals
  • OVER is 7-3 in their previous ten games versus the Western Conference

The Wild have an offense that can keep up with the Oilers. This isn’t the old Wild that like to sit back and allow teams to take it to them.

They attack offensively and are a fun team to watch play hockey. The Wild are third in the NHL with 3.71 goals scored per game. They have recorded 34.2 shots per game for sixth.

If there’s any room for improvement, the Wild need their defense to step up in the second-half of the season. The Wild are 17th in the NHL with 2.92 goals against per game.

In their last ten outings, the Wild have scored 4.2 goals a game, so they haven’t needed much of a defensive push. That might be required in Edmonton tonight, though.

I like a 4-3 or 5-3 final in an entertaining contest in Edmonton tonight.
