The Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames are scheduled to meet at the Saddledome in Alberta on Thursday night. Montreal is coming off their first loss since February 13.
It has been a tough season for the Canadiens, but they were on a good stretch from February 17 to February 26. The Canadiens won five straight games, including wins over the Blues, 3-2 OT, and Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-2.

That was a rare good look at the Canadiens, who have struggled considerably this season. The Canadiens are going into this one with a record of 13-34-7 and 33 points.
The Canadiens are dead last in the Atlantic Division in what is a throwaway season for the Habs. It’s crazy to think that Montreal was in the Stanley Cup Final just last year.
Their trip to the Stanley Cup Final feels so long ago now that the Canadiens are in the sewer. Since then, GM Marc Bergevin and head coach Dominique Ducharme were fired in Montreal.
It’s tough being a Canadien fan, but at least they reached a Stanley Cup Final recently. That’s better than Maple Leaf fans can say. The Canadiens are out west against the red-hot Flames.
Calgary is going into tonight at 32-14-6 and coming off another win, this time against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, 5-1. The win was their 12th in the last 13 games.
Is it all a mirage, or are the Flames for real? A strong playoff run is all that will make this season worth it. Head below for our free Canadiens vs. Flames prediction on March 3, 2022.

Canadiens vs. Flames Prediction:
The Canadiens have a lot to deal with tonight against the Flames in Calgary. This doesn’t look like an easy assignment for the Canadiens. Not with how the Flames have been playing recently.
Maybe the Canadiens catch the Flames looking elsewhere and don’t take this one seriously, though. The Flames have been putting together a relentless attack with their forwards and offensive attack.
They are the second-best team in the league, with 35.8 shots per game. The Flames are up to 3.5 shots per game and even better at home.
Calgary has scored 3.61 goals per game at the Saddledome this season. They have been hotter than over the last few weeks, too.
Note that the Flames have scored 4.6 goals per game in their previous ten attempts. The Canadiens conceded 3.4 goals per game during that stretch in their last ten outings.
That’s actually an improvement for the Habs. They are 32nd, dead last, in the NHL with 3.8 goals against per game. The Habs are 31st on the penalty kill as well.
Montreal Canadiens vs. Calgary Flames Betting Trends:
- 5-24 overall in thier previous 29 games as an underdog on the road
- 2-12 overall in their previous 14 games versus the Pacific Division
- OVER is 5-1 in their previous six games after a loss by 3 or more goals
- OVER is 4-1 in their previous five games versus the Pacific Division
- OVER is 12-5 in their previous 17 games as an underdog
- 9-0 overall in their previous nine games as a betting favorite at home
- 14-2 overall in their previous 16 games
- OVER is 7-3-2 in their previous 12 games
- OVER is 12-3-3 in their previous 17 games after allowing 2 or fewer goals
- OVER is 5-2-1 in their previous eight games at home
Expect the Flames to find their way around the Montreal defense pretty easily tonight. The Canadiens’ offense is having problems this season as well, but at least they’ve been playing better recently.
The Canadiens have scored at least 3 goals in five of their last six outings and 4 goals in three of their previous four attempts. Goals have been common for both sides in this series, with the OVER going 3-1 in their last four games.
That’s where I’m looking in Calgary tonight. The total looks attractive in this matchup. I’m playing the OVER in a 4-3 or 5-2 game at the Saddledome between the Canadiens and Flames tonight.
