New York Rangers vs. Seattle Kraken Pick – NHL October 31, 2021

The New York Rangers and Seattle Kraken have a Sunday night matchup at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. It’s been an acceptable start for the expansion team, but this isn’t anything like the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights did something that we may never see again from an expansion franchise. At least it’s going to be a long time before an expansion team, in any sport, goes back to the championship game.

The Kraken are off to a 3-4-1 start through their first eight games in franchise history. I think that’s kind of what you expect from an expansion team, not what the Golden Knights were able to accomplish. They were only two games away from winning the Stanley Cup.

Seattle is coming off a 5-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens and 4-1 over the Minnesota Wild. In their most recent win on Thursday, Philipp Grubauer stood tall with 30 saves of 31 shots for a 0.968 save percentage.

The Kraken had high hopes for Grubauer after coming off a big career with the Avalanche in Colorado. Selecting Grubauer was a no-brainer for the Kraken. He takes on a Rangers team off to a pretty decent start in 2021-22.

The Rangers are coming off a 4-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. Igor Shesterkin was in top form with 31 saves for the shutout. That’s what the Rangers expect out of Shesterkin, a goaltender they’ve been high on since drafting him.

With the win against the Jackets, the Rangers are winners in five of their last six attempts. They are 3 points behind the Carolina Hurricanes in the Metropolitan Division. It wouldn’t be much of a shocker to see the Rangers finish exactly where they are right now in third.

Grubauer didn’t get off to a great start with the Kraken, but he’s been settling in. He is listed as the confirmed starter for tonight, while Shesterkin is back between the pipes for the Rangers. Head below for our free Rangers vs. Kraken pick on October 31, 2021.

Rangers vs. Kraken Prediction:

Everything has been going well for Igor Shesterkin, as the Rangers hope to replace a Hall of Fame goaltender in Henrik Lundqvist with another that will be with the organization for a long time.

Shesterkin was great as a rookie two years ago through 12 outings. He recorded a 2.52 GAA and 0.932 save percentage for a pretty promising look at the future in the crease.

He is off to a red-hot start this season with a 1.81 GAA and 0.944 save percentage through six games. In four of his last five outings, Shesterkin has conceded 1 or no goals.

He’s coming off a 31-save shutout versus the Blue Jackets. The Kraken have some work to do offensively before they are taken seriously. They are going into Sunday night with 2.8 goals scored per game for 19th in the NHL.

Seattle needs to put more shots on net, as they’ve only averaged 28.1 per game for 29th in the league. Their defense has prevented shots, though, as the Kraken are second with 28.3 shots allowed per game.

NY Rangers vs. Seattle Kraken Betting Trends:

  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games
  • 4-0 overall in their previous four games on the road
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games on one-day rest
  • UNDER is 6-1 in their previous seven games
  • UNDER is 6-1 in their previous seven games as a favorite on the road

  • 2-4 overall in their previous six games
  • UNDER is 1-1-2 in their previous four games

Grubauer had a career-high GAA of 1.95 and a 0.922 save percentage with the Avalanche last year. He was a Vezina finalist with that production with the Avs. Grubauer got off to a slow start, but he’s picking it up recently.

Through his first five games, Grubauer allowed fewer than 2 goals in only one outing. Since then, Grubauer has allowed 1 goal in back-to-back performances versus the Canadiens and Wild at home in Seattle.

Note that Grubauer has a 1.68 GAA and 0.938 save percentage at home in three starts as opposed to a 4.01 GAA and 0.867 save percentage on the road.

The Rangers haven’t been hot offensively, and relying on defense to win. They’ve scored 2.4 goals per game for 26th in the NHL and 28.3 shots per game for 28th. This has the makings of a 3-2 final score with the game staying UNDER the total.
