NHL Picks and Predictions for April 20th

I hope you have all been enjoying this awesome first round. I apologize about missing the last few days but I have been traveling and a few unexpected things came up. Though we have missed the last few days we still have a 7-2 record so far in the playoffs (includes plenty of upsets). I have two selections for everyone on this Wednesday night.

NHL Betting Picks:

Anaheim Ducks vs. Nashville Predators

The Ducks and Preds take to the ice for game number 4 tonight in Nashville. Superstar country singer Carrie Underwood has been very happy with the play of her new husband Mike Fisher as of late. Fisher has led the Preds to a 2-1 series lead thanks to 3 goals and 2 assists. Nashville has looked like the better team all series and it is a testament to what they try and accomplish as a team. They play the game with 4 lines and 6 defence, looking for contributions from everyone (It does help when you have one of the world’s best goaltenders in net (Pekka Rinne)). The favorite in this series has won 18 of the past 24 games. I look for Nashville to get behind their surprising very loud crowd again and make things difficult for the Ducks. The Preds are also 8-2 in their last 10 homes games and 11-4 in their last 15 overall. Couple all the positives for the Preds together and the few negatives for the Ducks really stand out. The Ducks goaltending situation has been a question mark ever since Jonas Hiller went down. The fact that the Ducks are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings with Nashville doesn’t help either. We are going with Nashville as a favorite on home ice. Let go Preds!!

PICK = Nashville Predators (-142)

Washington Capitals vs. New York Rangers

What a series this is turning out to be. Both teams are battling hard, goalies playing well and each team has held serve so far. With a total of 10 goals scored through the first 3 games between the two teams you can tell what kind of series this is going to be (a 7 game one). The Rangers pulled out a huge 3-2 victory in game 3, putting them right back in this series. Also when you have a goalie as good as King Henrik, you are never out of a series. The Rangers played terrific hockey down the stretch and much of it was thanks to their home record. They have posted a 7-2 mark over their last 9 home games, and 4-1 in their last 5 games played on 2 days rest. Look for the Blue Shirt s to come out flying at home tonight, while the Caps will just try and weather the early storm. The Caps have always been a team built to win 6-4 games in years past, but this is no longer the case. They have bought into the team first mentality and it appears to be paying dividends. The Caps know that anything less of a Stanley Cup Finals is a complete disappointment for them. This game will go down to the wire but I will take the Rangers goaltending over Washington’s in this one. We are going with New York as slight home favorites tonight at MSG.

Pick = New York Rangers (-105)

Good luck to both our teams and everyone’s bets tonight. Cheers

Stephen
