NHL Picks and Predictions for April 6th

We went 2-1 last night, with our only loss coming from the 3-1 total in the COL/STL game. The Caps picked up a big win for us in a shootout against the Leafs while the Blues disposed of the awful Avalanche. Tonight there are 8 games in the NHL, including a few must win games for the Flames and Hurricanes. Luckily we have picks on both these games. Should be an exciting night of hockey as we inch closer to the playoffs.

NHL Picks for Tonight:

Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames

Calgary currently sits 2 points back of Chicago and Anaheim for the 7th and 8th positions in the West. With just two games remaining, the Flames know they have to win both of them. Tonight they face off against their Alberta rivals the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers come into the game on a high as they beat the Vancouver Canucks 2-0 last night. The win last night completed a home and home sweep of the best team in hockey for the bottom feeding Oilers. You also know they would love nothing more than to walk into Calgary and end their playoff dreams. Tonight is as close as the Oilers will get to a playoff feel game this year. The favorite in this match up is 8-0 and the Flames are very heavy favorites tonight. The Oilers are 14-49 in their last 63 road games, and just 7-19-2 in their last 28 meetings in Calgary. Tonight I look for Iginla and Kipper to steal the show and the Flames to win in a big way in front of their sea of red. I told myself to stay away from the puck lines but this is a perfect spot for a huge Flames win.

PICK = Calgary Flames (-1.5) (-105)

Detroit Red Wings vs. Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are the only team left in the Eastern Conference who can catch either the Rangers or Sabres. The Rangers sit 4 points ahead of the Hurricanes while the Sabres are 5 points in front. Tonight is huge for the Hurricanes as this is their game in hand on both teams. In a must win game you know the Hurricane are going to come out flying and Cam Ward will be standing on his head. The only problem for the Hurricanes is they are facing Detroit. The Red Wings are 14-3-1 in the last 18 meetings with the Hurricanes. The Wings are also fighting with San Jose for the 2nd seed in the West (currently sit 1 point back). Detroit has also been one of the best road teams in the league this season posting a 25-10-4 record. The Hurricanes meanwhile have a 21-13-5 home record and have gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. I look for tonight’s game to be a spirited affair with very few penalties and plenty of scoring chances. The Hurricanes have the edge though as they are playing for their playoff lives. Though the Wings would love to finish 2nd, they know they will finish no worse than 3rd. Look for the Canes players to have the extra step needed to pull out the victory.

PICK = Carolina Hurricanes (+100)

Good luck to Calgary and Carolina tonight.
