NHL Picks and Predictions for March 11th

Well last night we took 2 of 3 games to bring our 1 week record to 12-5. A very solid record for the past 7 days but let’s try and better it. Tonight we have 8 games on the slate, a large number for a Friday night. When you look at the games tonight a lot of them are odd matchups. With many of the bottom feeding teams in action facing either elite teams or ones just trying to get in the playoffs, it makes things tricky. Look for a few blowout victories to take place tonight. Let’s dive into the 3 previews and picks though.

Tonight’s NHL Picks:

Edmonton Oilers vs. Detroit Red Wings

The Oilers invade Joe Louis tonight in a matchup of prospects vs. veterans. Detroit is a proven winning team with a bunch of Stanley Cup rings in their dressing room. The Oilers are trying to build a team that can compete atop the Western conference every year, much like the Red Wings. 4 losses in a row for Detroit have allowed Vancouver to run away with the Conference, while also allowing Chicago to get within 5 points of the Division league. The Red Wings know they have to play better hockey going into a playoffs they hope last long into the spring. Edmonton may just be the team the Red Wings need to play to help get them back on track. All 3 matchups this year have gone to Detroit by a combined score of 14-6. The Oilers have been blown out by Philly and Washington on their current road trip. Tonight figures to see a determined Detroit team take advantage of a young and banged up Oilers squad.

Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars have not been a welcoming host over the years for the Minnesota Wild. The last 13 meetings in Dallas have provided the Wild with zero wins. To put it lightly, Dallas seems to have Minnesota’s number. They have also taken 10 out of the last 12 matchups overall in the series. The Stars enter tonight’s matchup with points in 7 straight games and a superb 18-9-6 home ice record. The Wild on the other hand will be playing on back to back nights after losing 4-0 last night to Nashville. We can expect to see Jose Theodore in net tonight and I don’t expect him to end Dallas’ home dominance of the Wild. Let’s lay the juice and go with the Stars.

New Jersey Devils vs. Atlanta Thrashers

Tonight will mark the 3rd of 4 meetings between the Devils and Thrashers. Each team has held serve at home so far with the Thrashers winning 7-1 and the Devils winning 3-1. That loss in Atlanta though was an uncommon thing for the Devils. New Jersey owns a 6-1 record in their past 7 visits to Atlanta and will look to continue their ridiculous push for the playoffs. Much of that push has come thanks to the defence and the excellent play from Johan Hedberg and Martin Brodeur. The Devils have held opponents to 2 goals or less in 14 straight hockey games (winning 12 of those). Atlanta sits 7 points back of the 8th and final playoff spot, while New Jersey is 10 points back. Tonight figures to be an intense matchup as this is a huge 2 points for both teams. We are going to go with the stingy Devils in a tight one.

PICK= New Jersey Devils (-135) – Click here to bet it at BetED and get a $250 Bonus!!

Good luck to the Red Wings, Stars and Devils tonight!
