NHL Picks and Predictions for March 4th

That’s what I’m talking about! A solid 3 for 3 night with Carolina and the under, as well as Montreal over an awful Florida team. Let’s keep this rolling into the weekend. Tonight we have 5 games on the NHL slate, with a couple of intriguing matchups. As we get closer and closer to playoff time be sure to make note of the amount of totals going under the number. Teams are playing tight defensive hockey and this has never been more apparent than last night when 10 out of the 11 hit. Here is what I have following a night and morning of studying.

Tonight’s NHL Picks:

Dallas Stars vs. Anaheim Ducks

Dallas sits only 1 point back of Calgary for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Ducks will look to leap frog the Stars tonight as they are only 1 point back of them. The West has been nothing short of crazy all year and it appears this log jam will go right to the end of the season. Dallas comes in as winners of 3 in a row and have their fingers crossed that All-Star Brad Richards will return tonight from his concussion. Obviously the Ducks are hoping otherwise. The Ducks caught a nice break on Wednesday getting a penalty shot in OT and beating the Red Wings 2-1. This will be the 4th matchup of the year between the Stars and Ducks, with Anaheim taking 2 of 3. Anaheim has a very solid 19-10-2 record at home this year. The Stars on the other hand are 2-7 in their last 9 road games. In what figures to a battle we have to give the edge to the Ducks, even if Richards does play.

New York Rangers vs. Ottawa Senators

The resurgent Sens look to make it two wins in a row when they face off against the struggling Rangers. The Senators have been playing intense hockey as of late, mainly because it is a tryout for many of the players. It also helps when you acquire a goalie (Craig Anderson) and he stops almost everything thrown at him. In 6 games with the Sens, Anderson has posted a ridiculous 1.16 GAA and a 0.966SV%. The Rangers on the other hand have been free falling at the wrong time. A 4-11 mark in their last 15 games has left the Rangers in a battle for the final playoff spot in the East. They are just two points up on Buffalo and 3 points ahead of Toronto, while both teams have games in hand. Disappointing play aside though, tonight I look for John Tortorella to get his Rangers back on track in Canada’s Capital. Look for an inspired effort from a New York team in need of a big win.
