It’s that time of year again everyone. The chase for Lord Stanley’s Cup begins tonight when the NHL Playoffs get underway. I hope everyone has their 1st round predictions in; their pools filled out, and are ready to make some cash this post season. In this first article I am going to give you 1st round series bets I like, and plays for tonight. Hope everyone enjoys the 5 games on the playoff slate tonight. 1 Round Series Betting
Phoenix Coyotes vs. Detroit Red Wings
These two teams split the 4 regular season games they played this year. They are also familiar foes as they met last year in the playoffs, with Detroit coming out on top in 7 games. I feel this year will be a very similar series but with Phoenix coming out on top. The edge has to go to Ilya Bryzgalov in the goaltending department. I feel this will be a huge factor along with Henrik Zetterberg not being 100%. Take the Coyotes.
Nashville Predators vs. Anaheim Ducks
May favorite underdog pick is the Nashville Predators. In 4 games this year the Preds put up 17 goals on the Ducks. Winning 3 of 4 from Anaheim this year, the Preds never put up less than 4 goals in a game. Look for one of the best goalies in the world (Pekka Rinne) to shine in this series and lead the Preds to their first ever playoff series win.
PICK = Nashville Predators (+105)
Los Angeles Kings vs. San Jose Sharks
This Sharks team is poised to make a deep run into the playoffs this year. I know it has been said before but the Sharks just seem ready this year. They played terrific hockey down the stretch and have 3 very solid lines. I don’t think with Anze Kopitar watching from the press box the Sharks need to be too worried about the Kings. Sharks in 5. Lay the chalk.

Tonight’s NHL Picks
Nashville Predators vs. Anaheim Ducks
I think from the series prediction above you can see where this pick is going. Nashville is the better team. They went 11-3-1 over their last 15 games of the season and utilized a superb defensive style to win games. Look for Dan Ellis to be between the pipes for Anaheim and his old team to rough him up tonight. We will take the Preds as underdogs.
PICK = Nashville Predators (+128)
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
No Crosby and Malkin, and all the Pens do is win. This organization was decimated with injuries to star players this season yet found itself in a battle for the conference title until the final games. Pittsburgh has been on extended playoff runs in recent years and that’s because they know how to win in the playoffs. The Penguins beat the Lightning both games at home this year and won by a combined 13-2 margin in those 2 games. Look for the Penguins to win a 3-1-type hockey game tonight.
PICKS = TB/PIT under 5.5 (-135) and PIT to win (-140)
Phoenix Coyotes vs. Detroit Red Wings
If the Coyotes are going to win this series they will need to steal a game in Detroit. That wont be as difficult as it sounds. Detroit played better hockey on the road this year than they did at home. Couple that with Henrik Zetterberg not playing, and I see tonight as the perfect opportunity for Phoenix to pick up a big win.
