The Ottawa Senators head on the road for a three-game road trip to Dallas, Chicago, and then ending in Minnesota on Tuesday. The Senators have two days off after their stop in Dallas against the Stars, but then will have a back-to-back on Monday and Tuesday.
They are coming off a 7-5 loss against the Washington Capitals on Monday. There was little defensive effort in that one, as the Sens were smoked for 4 goals in the 1st period.
T.J. Oshie netted a hat-trick, while Alexander Ovechkin scored 2 goals for a busy night offensively in Kanata.

The Senators went through two goaltenders, as Anton Forsberg was chased out of the game after allowing 4 goals on 16 shots for a 0.75 save percentage.
Filip Gustavsson was marginally better with 3 goals against on 15 shots for a 0.80 save percentage. The Capitals are a tough team to stop offensively when they’re rolling.
With the loss, the Senators regressed to 2-4-0 on the season. This is a team that is in desperate need of showing improvement. Eventually the tweaking and rebuilding has to show progress.
They finished 23-28-5 with 51 points in the North Division last year. That was the all-Canadian division, so it was tough for any of these teams to have a fair measurement without playing other teams.
The Senators finished a point ahead of the Vancouver Canucks to avoid the basement in the division. They take on a Stars team that was a trendy pick to win the Stanley Cup two seasons ago after going to the Final.
At least when the playoffs started and the Stars looked so good, they were attracting plenty of attention at the window.
Last season the Stars didn’t even reach the playoffs with a record of 23-19-14 and 60 points. Too many losses in coin flip overtime contests did them in. They’re off to a mediocre 3-3-1 start in 2021-22. Head below for our free Senators vs. Stars pick on October 29, 2021.

Senators vs. Stars Prediction:
The Dallas Stars must find a way to kickstart this lifeless offense. It’s been an ugly start for the Stars. They have struggled mightily to score the puck with just 1.9 goals scored per game for 31st in the NHL.
Their lackluster offense has resulted in their mediocre record of 3-3-1. The Stars have yet to score 3 goals in regulation.
They beat the New York Rangers in overtime in their opener on October 14, 3-2. They did the same versus Kings on October 22, though the Stars needed extra time to get there.
If we’re going to subtract two overtime wins for the Stars, they’ve scored just 1.57 goals per game. Tough scene for the Stars, but their defense has played well with 2.6 goals allowed per game for eighth in the NHL.
Braden Holtby has been in good form with a 2.04 GAA and 0.939 save percentage between the pipes. The Senators haven’t been all that hot offensively either.
Even with 5 goals against the Caps, they have scored only 2.5 goals per game this season. Ottawa is 24th offensively with that below average scoring rate.
Ottawa Senators vs. Dallas Stars Betting Trends:
- 1-4 overall in their previous five games
- 3-10 overall in their previous ten games versus the Central Division
- 1-4 overall in their previous five games as an underdog
- UNDER is 5-1 in their previous six games
- UNDER is 4-0 in their previous four games on three-day rest
- 5-1 overall in their previous six games as a favorite at home
- UNDER is 7-0 in their previous seven games
- UNDER is 5-0 in their previous five games after scoring 2 or less goals
- UNDER is 43-21-7 in their previous 71 games versus the Eastern Conference
The Senators haven’t had their offense clicking either. Besides the game against the Capitals, they scored 3 or less goals in their first five games this season.
All five of those outings went UNDER the total, with the Sens averaging only 2 goals per game. Expect the Stars’ defense to be able to keep the Sens in check after they had an offensive explosion versus the Capitals.
I’m not looking for too much activity in this one. The offenses should be held in check in Dallas. Between the Sens and Stars, the UNDER has gone 12-1 this year. I like to think that we are going to have a low-scoring final score in this one.
