Ottawa Senators vs. Florida Panthers Pick – NHL December 14, 2021

The Ottawa Senators are in Sunrise at FLA Live Arena looking to make it back-to-back wins against top tier opponents. It would be a win over another Florida team, as the Senators are coming off a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon at home against the Lightning.

It was a good win for the Senators for their fourth in their previous five attempts. It was their most impressive, with the Senators pulling away and blanking the Lightning. Anton Forsberg put up a wall, as he saved all 25 shots against the defending champions.

Brian Elliott received a spot start for the Bolts to give Andrei Vasilevskiy a break. The mindset of the team was just that. Let’s take a break in Kanata, this is the Senators, we don’t need optimal effort. The Lightning were burned for that lazy attitude this past weekend.

It was their third win during this stretch against a big-time opponent. They knocked off the Colorado Avalanche in a highly entertaining matchup on December 4, 6-5.

The Senators didn’t get much goaltending in that one, but the offense came to match the Avalanche. They also topped the Carolina Hurricanes for a 3-2 win a couple of games earlier.

Ottawa is a 8-16-1 team with 17 points going into Sunrise. They are 2 points up on the Montreal Canadiens in the Atlantic Division. Before going on this little run with four wins in five attempts, the Senators had a six-game losing streak.

This is a season where the Senators just want to see progress for the future. They aren’t expecting to go to the playoffs or compete, but if there are positive signs, then the organization is going to be confident about next year and beyond.

The Panthers are coming off a tough 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. They almost got the third goal to push things into overtime, but came just short with a 2-man advantage on the power play and an empty net.

Florida has four wins in their last six outings, and an overall record of 18-5-4 with 40 points. They are in a tie with the Toronto Maple Leafs for top honors in the Atlantic. Head below for our free Senators vs. Panthers pick on December 14, 2021.

Senators vs. Panthers Prediction:

The Senators have been playing team hockey as of late. It’s something that Senators’ fans haven’t been used to seeing in some time.

That includes goaltending, with Anton Forsberg stepping up. How long is this going to last for the Senators, though? Forsberg is performing above expectations at the moment.

He is listed as probable to get the nod in the crease tonight. I have my doubts that Forsberg can stay hot between the pipes.

He has a 3.34 GAA and 0.904 save percentage, and is coming off his first career shutout of the season. Despite the shutout, Forsberg has allowed 4 or more goals in four of his last seven starts.

After the offense had a slow game in Denver, I can see the Panthers getting back to their normal standards back home at home. Forsberg has to be on point and not have a letdown after the shutout.

Ottawa Senators vs. Florida Panthers Betting Trends:

  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games
  • 15-46 overall in their previous 61 games on the road
  • 17-43 overall in their previous 60 games after allowing 2 goals or less
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games versus the Panthers
  • UNDER is 6-2 in their previous eight games versus a team with a winning record

  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games versus the Eastern Conference
  • 41-12 overall in their previous 53 games as a favorite at FLA Live Arena
  • 22-7 overall in their previous after scoring 2 or more goals
  • The favorite is 5-1 in their previous games versus the Senators
  • UNDER is 7-1 in their previous eight games versus the Atlantic Division

The Panthers are second best in the NHL with 3.7 goals scored per game. Their goal scoring improves to a whopping 4.4 goals per game at home in Sunrise.

Conversely, the Senators have netted just 2.45 goals per game on the road this season. They will have to deal with a Florida defense that has held up well at home as well.

Florida is allowing 2.53 goals per game at home this season. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see a letdown from the Senators after dismantling the Lightning on Saturday.

I’m going to side with the Panthers to bounce back at home in this one. The Sens might put up a fight, but look for the Panthers to pull out a 4-2 or 5-2 win tonight.
