Panthers vs. Ducks Pick – NHL February 17th

We turn to the west coast tonight, as the Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks settle in for a meeting on Friday night. We wrapped up another solid win last night with another winning pick on the ice. It’s been a profitable month for us in the NHL, as has been the case all season long with our NHL picks.

Tonight we look for another successful pick in Anaheim. The Panthers continue their west coast road trip tonight, after defeating the San Jose Sharks in overtime two nights ago. That was an easy winner for us, cashing in on the OVER 5 with our NHL pick for Tuesday night.

This is the third game in what is a nation-wide road trip for the Panthers. It started in Nashville, which resulted in a 7-4 win for the Predators. They looked much better the ensuing start, as they pulled off a small upset by beating the San Jose Sharks in San Jose.

The Panthers will have to find a way to successfully pull off several more small upsets to reach the playoffs this spring. By looking at the calendar, it’s simple to say that there is a lot of time left to make moves. However, there isn’t much room for error for any team fighting to earn a playoff spot.

The Ducks enter the weekend with a record of 30-18-8. They’re quietly flying under the radar, and I’m sure that is just fine for them. With so much pressure and expectations placed on them for the last decade, the Ducks have routinely failed to hit the apex of their potential.

They do however still have that Stanley Cup from 2007 with their names on it. It’s been choke after choke with them in the playoffs ever since. Let’s get straight to our Panthers vs Ducks pick below.

Florida Panthers vs. Anaheim Ducks Pick

The Ducks hit a wall early in the season a year ago, but eventually got things together in the second-half. In fact, they were one of the hotter teams you could find in the NHL at the time. It all went for naught, though, as the Ducks suffered a first-round exit at the hands of the Nashville Predators in seven games.

The loss sent Bruce Boudreau to the unemployment line, and gave Randy Carlyle his job back in Anaheim, a position he assumed back in 2007 when they won the Stanley Cup. The Ducks have four wins in their last ten games after a brutal stretch of contests. They’re coming off six straight games on the road, including eight of their last ten outings.

Now the Ducks get back to where they have always enjoyed considerable success. The Ducks have notoriously been one of the best home teams in the NHL across the last decade or so. This season they are 17-6-2 at home in Anaheim, compared to an average mark of 13-12-6 elsewhere. The Panthers are getting better, having found their offensive mojo of late. However, I think the scheduling catches up to them tonight in Anaheim. The Ducks return home to the pond where they feel most comfortable, defeating the road weary Panthers on Friday night. We like the Ducks for our Friday night NHL pick.
