The Montreal Canadiens took advantage of a tired Kings team last night and pasted them for a 6-2 win. They looked like they were enjoying the nightlife in Montreal instead of focusing on hockey after beating the Ottawa Senators a night ago. 6-2 final so obviously the UNDER 5 didn’t come through for us which looked to be in pretty good shape after 1 goal in the first period. Entering the 3rd things looked to be in decent shape as well, but an offensive explosion from both teams put the game well over the total, unfortunately. I was on a really nice hot streak not all that long ago and now I have dropped a few in a row. I am either burying every shot or can’t buy a bucket. There hasn’t been any in between. Hopefully I can get off this snide tonight, as we turn our attention to a matchup featuring the Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres.
Doesn’t the sound of this game make you want to vomit, the Panthers and Sabres. If you were to combine the attendance of a Panthers and Sabres’ home game you wouldn’t be able to fill up one arena to watch this game. So really, no one cares about this game other than gamblers and hardcore hockey fanatics. I don’t even know if the hardcores are going to even care, but the Florida Panthers team should care about this game. I imagine they are feeling all the confidence in the world is on their side after taking care of the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout last night. They make the short trip north to Buffalo where the Sabres will be waiting for them, a little less of a challenge than the Wings. However, the Panthers are in a back-to-back, and if they take them lightly they’ll find themselves with some different emotions than they did 24 hours prior in Detroit. The Sabres have caught a few teams off guard this season, which has been their only saving grace in an otherwise horrendous campaign thus far. It is all about the future in Buffalo, but I’m all about winning some cash now.
Florida Panthers @ Buffalo Sabres
This game is a case of two offenses that have desperately tried to find their way this season. The Sabres have improved somewhat, they couldn’t have gotten any worse than they were, but they are still bottom dwellers in the NHL offensively. It isn’t saying much that they have improved, because the Sabres are still averaging only 1.66 goals per game. Earlier in the season they were just above 1 goal a game, so it is a small consolation for the Sabres. 1.66 goals still puts them well back of the 2nd worst team, the Hurricanes, who are scoring 2.14 a game. Buffalo has some talent stacked away in the minors, but until there is some development the offense will be dreadful. They should be in for a test tonight against the Panthers who are 9th in the NHL allowing 2.44 goals per game.
The Panthers have had difficulties on offense themselves. Florida is 27th in the NHL, averaging only 2.18 goals per game. Therefore, between the Sabres and Panthers these teams are scoring 3.84 goals combined. There are some teams that are almost scoring that own their own. The last six times the Panthers and Sabres have met they went 4-1-1 to the UNDER. We failed to our pick last night, but I’m going to look for cash on another UNDER with two of the lowest scoring teams in the NHL square off in Buffalo Friday night.
