The Pittsburgh Penguins can finish up their series with the Columbus Blue Jackets in quick order tonight. The Penguins can go for the sweep, dispatching the Blue Jackets in four games straight in Game 4. Pittsburgh beating the Jackets is no surprise, but taking them down four in a row is no small feat.
If the Blue Jackets can’t make a series out of this, it’s almost going to feel like a waste of a year for them. The regular season was such a success for the Jackets, but they’re in danger of watching the playoffs say goodbye without a win.
And you know what, it’ll be quite a waste if they can’t even win a game. What a step in the right direction for this franchise, but it’d be frustrating, and a blow to the gut if they can’t muster up a win against the Penguins.
I have seen a few people try and be cute, taking the Blue Jackets to unseat the Pens in the first-round. Yeah, the Blue Jackets had a nice go at it in the regular season, but they’re dealing with a team who’ve been here before.
Sidney Crosby is going for his third Stanley Cup and defending their championship from last season. They’d have the first step out of the way with a win tonight.
The Jackets need a victory to extend the series, we’ll see if there is anything left in the tank. Someone must step it up, or it’s lights out in Columbus in what was an otherwise successful season. Get our Penguins vs. Blue Jackets here for free at The Sports Geek.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Columbus Blue Jackets Game 4 Pick
Somebody has to slow down this relentless Penguins’ attack, but it won’t be easy. The idea of the Jackets coming down from 0-3 looks difficult, to near impossible at this point. I think the plan is to go out with some pride and not such a bad stain on what was an excellent regular season. The Pens’ offence has been a hard unit to slow down all season long. They finished 1st in the NHL, averaging 3.39 goals per game. It’s carried over in the playoffs too, as they’ve led all playoff teams with 4 goals per game thus far.
The Blue Jackets haven’t had any answers to slow them down. In Game 3, 4 goals wasn’t enough to defeat the Pens. Pittsburgh got their 5th in OT to win it and advance for a sweep opportunity this evening. I don’t see how the Blue Jackets get up for this game tonight. After Matt Calvert snapped his stick by delivering an unprovoked crosscheck at the end of Game 2, the writing was on the wall to me. The writing spelled out on a Penguins’ sweep. It was the best turnaround in the NHL, but it’s not going to help the Blue Jackets out against the Pens tonight. Pens wrap it up, the Game 4 pick is on the Penguins.
PICK: PENGUINS (-115)
