Nice and easy winners is the way we like it. After a scoreless 0-0 2nd period between the Canadiens and Sabres, they both scored in the 3rd and went to OT tied up 1-1. Montreal eventually won the game in a shootout for a not so impressive win for them. Another low scoring game in this series, which is quickly turning into a trend we should keep an eye on heading forward. The Sabres can never score any goals against the Canadiens. Mind you, the Sabres don’t score goals against anyone, but even when the Buffalo offense was average they couldn’t score goals against them then either. The UNDER continually cashes in against these two teams. Similar to how I’ll always play the OVER when the Islanders and Leafs meet, which is a 10-0 OVER trend. After about a month into the season is when I usually get a better feel for teams, so I like more wins to come our way as a result.
Betting the Penguins lately has been a winning proposition. The Pens are a five game winning streak with little signs of slowing up. I have done a few Penguin write-ups recently so I am not going to get into every little detail about them, but the numbers on this team speak for themselves. The Winnipeg Jets, in a way, are siblings to the Buffalo Sabres. The Jets are not nearly as bad as the Sabres, but on the offense end, yeah they aren’t far off. Read below to get a better glimpse into this matchup as we look for another winner in the NHL.
Pittsburgh Penguins @ Winnipeg Jets
The Jets are not scoring any goals at all, as you’ll see here. They have been holding up on defense, but they have no offense to keep this team competitive. The Jets are averaging only 1.85 goals a game, joining the Sabres by scoring less than 2 goals per game. How are they going to keep up against the Pens in this game? We all know what kind of offensive firepower the Penguins punch, so if the Jets defense wants to have a chance here they may have to hold the Pens to only 1 goal, but that isn’t going to be very easy. However, the Jets are letting opposing teams score only 2 goals per game. Nevertheless, the Penguins’ offense is the best in the NHL and one that shouldn’t be easy to hold down here Thursday night.
Pittsburgh has scored 3, 8, 3, 5, and 4 goals in their last five games during their win streak. It reflects a team that is averaging over 4 goals per game on average, 1st in the NHL. The scoring is amazing and all, but even more impressive is how the defense is playing. Defensively the Penguins are letting in only 2.09 goals a game. During that five game stretch they gave up just 4 goals. Three of those games were shutouts and another they gave up just one. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Penguins earn another shutout here, against one of the worst offensive teams in the league. Note that the Sabres recently held a similar Sabres’ offense to no goals. Expect none or 1 goal from the Jets. So, then, we would need only a couple from this Penguins offense. I would take the Penguins tonight if you need your hockey fix at the sportsbook.
