Penguins vs. Rangers NHL Pick – October 17th

Unfortunate beat last night, as we couldn’t buy another goal to get to 6 goals. We went 2-1 on the night with wins in Nashville and New York, but couldn’t get the sweep thanks to the Lightning and Red Wings. The Bolts scored less than 2 minutes in the 3rd period to make it 3-2 and it looked like we were going to cruise to a win. One of the best chances came with around 40 seconds left on the clock in front of the Tampa net. A clean pass would have resulted in an empty net goal, but it wasn’t meant to be. Tonight we head to NYC for the Penguins and Rangers. There’s another game in New York that you may know about over at Yankee Stadium.

Big night for sports in New York with Game 4 of the ALCS and the Penguins in town to play the Rangers. The Rangers haven’t been giving anybody in the city to get excited about, though. Right now everyone has their eyes pealed on the ALCS, while the Rangers are quietly going about their business losing hockey games. It seemed like Henrik Lundqvist was hitting his expiration date last year, you could seem him slipping. This season the Rangers are off to a 1-5-0 start and they might want a change in goal. Cam Talbot was such a good replacement for Henrik a few years ago, and the right move for the future probably was to hang on to him.

Henrik has done a lot for the Rangers in his career, and it would have been really hard to say goodbye. The Rangers found a suitable replacement in Annti Raanta, but he’s gone as well. Raanta took a job with the Coyotes as their starting goaltender, so that leaves former Jet, Ondrej Pavelec, behind Henrik. In other words, the Rangers do not have the best plan B in this case. They just have to ride Lundqvist and hope he plays well enough and doesn’t get injured. Marc-Andre Fleury left on better terms, as a Stanley Cup Champion in Pittsburgh. We’ll see if Matt Murray can handle the Rangers tonight. Head below for our free Penguins vs. Rangers pick.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. N.Y. Rangers Pick

Lundqvist enters tonight with a GAA of 2.82. When you compare it to Pavelec’s 3.75 GAA and 0.86 save percentage, it’s clear that Henrik must stay healthy of this year is going to go in the tubes fast. He hasn’t been great, but it’d turn into a disaster without him around. There have been holes all over the place. They haven’t been scoring the puck, and the defence hasn’t been assisting either. In their last three games, the Rangers have allowed 3 goals in each, while scoring just 4 goals in total. Their only win was a 2-0 final against the Montreal Canadiens. They’re averaging just 2.50 goals per game, while allowing 3.50 goals.

This is their worst start in 37 years, and now they must contend with Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. Lundqvist was roughed up by the Pens in 2016-17. He posted a 4.34 GAA in two outings, neither of which resulted in a victory. The Rangers are shifting lines around going into this one. Rick Nash will be promoted to the top power-play unit in an attempt to get him going. The Rangers’ previous success is built into this price. They shouldn’t continue to play this bad, but don’t expect them to turn it around and become a perennial contender. The Penguins get a win tonight in NYC at MSG.
