Predators vs. Blackhawks Pick – NHL April 21st

The Rangers were able to bring their lead to 2-1 in the series with a 2-1 win over the Pens. The Penguins are in essentially what is a must win scenario the next time out. I figure now everyone is jumping off of the Penguins bangwagon because they lost, and then if they win the next game everyone will jump right back on board. Like I said in my last article that is just how the playoffs work with casual fans. And like I said yesterday as well, the Rangers are going to win that series 4-2. If that is to happen I think they are going to have to win the next game, because I don’t see them winning in New York down 3-1. The Pens have seem exhausted for over the last month, so I don’t see how that is going to change much. However, they can very well win the next game and make the Rangers sweat a bit, but we shall see. It was another good night in the NHL playoffs for sure. As I am writing this the Ducks and Jets are playing in a wild one in overtime, while the Minnesota Wild were able to blank the Blues in a 3-0 victory. The Wild are always that wildcard team that have the ability to play spoiler. They are on track of doing that against the Blues in this series. It has been a nice playoff season for us. After suffering that unspeakable beat with 3 goals in a minute a few nights ago, we haven’t lost a game since. Let’s keep it up tonight as we take a look at the Predators and Blackhawks.

Very important game for the Preds tonight. I told you that they have to split to have a shot at winning, and they have a shot to do that tonight. Considering the way Rinne has been playing in net, I just don’t know what to make of Nashville. Their playoff run is determined by the way he plays and he hasn’t been playing like he can lately. The 4th goal by the Blackhawks in game 3 was pretty awful playing the puck off the boards incorrectly then proceeding to let a soft goal in. He will have to show up tonight to bring this back to Nashville with some confidence in the Predators corner. I think it is a tough game to call, but I see one play I like.

Nashville Predators @ Chicago Blackhawks

While the Predator offense has improved exponentially in just a year, the defense of old is going to need to show up soon or this series is going to be over quickly. The Predators just need to get it back to Nashville tied up and get it to a rink where they have played well this season. However, even then, they have dropped off a bit from the first-half of the season in that regard. The defense hasn’t been doing any favors for Rinne, but he has to steal a game here and there for the Predators. If you need any indicator to tell you that the defense hasn’t been all there, the Preds are 9-1 to the OVER in their last ten games. Yes, they have been scoring, but not enough to offset all the goals they are allowing. In total they’re giving up 3.70 goals in their past ten games. An unthinkable stat from what identity they carved out for themselves in years past.

Every game in this series has gone OVER the total and the price we are being afforded in this game makes it worth a play. They finally realized they needed to bump it up a bit to 5.5 but all that means is we are getting a great price on the OVER. The odds on the total in this game should be around -110 or -105 depending on your book in this game. So of course the OVER at +129 caught my attention. Let’s ride with this pick until the wheels fall off, or at least, until the Predators show some life on the defensive end.
