Predators vs. Ducks Pick – NHL January 4th

The poor Toronto Maple Leafs got steamrolled by the Jets last night, getting defeated by a score of 5-1. The Leafs had a long flight from Minnesota to Winnipeg the night before and it definitely looked like they were a tad jet-lagged against the Jets. They put forth a lifeless effort and didn’t look all that into the game too much. The Jets have a history of pummeling the Leafs and they did just that last night once again. Our pick on the OVER 5.5 came through with the Jets carrying the weight in that one. The Jets have now scored 5 goals in four out of their last five games with the Leafs. In the other game they put in 4. Mind you, this isn’t exactly a powerful Jets offense. They have gotten better since the season began, but it isn’t a team the Leafs should be letting score this many goals on them. Some teams have the number of others, and this is one of those cases, the Leafs can’t crack the Jets code.

A decent size NHL card today for you sports bettors out there. Today we take a look at the Nashville Predators and the Anaheim Ducks matchup taking place in Anaheim today. The Predators continue their west-coast trip after a wild one against the Kings yesterday. You may have to adjust your eyes a couple of times while taking at the final score. The Predators fended off the Kings to win the contes, 7-6. No these weren’t two powerhouse offenses, they are actually known with their defensive prowess more than anything. The Preds and Kings nevertheless got into a shootout as the goals kept coming and coming at the Staples Center. They now make the short drive over to Anaheim where the Ducks will be waiting for them after their affair with the Kings.

Nashville Predators @ Anaheim Ducks

Did you ever take a statistics class in school? If you have, and were paying attention, you heard the term regression come up often. Numbers tend to regress back to the mean in most cases. After the Predators piled on 7 goals yesterday is there a chance that their goal total against the Ducks will plummet? A two game sample really isn’t the best determinate to go off of. However, I predict the Predators’ offense will tail off after their outing yesterday. They are running into a strong Ducks’ defense that should be able to take advantage of what should be a tired team in the Nashville Predators after a track-meet in overtime yesterday.

The Ducks are allowing 2.58 goals per game which tanks in the top-half of the NHL. Although the Predators let in 6 goals yesterday they are possess one of the best defenses in the NHL. Note that Nashville is letting in an average of 2.22 goals per game which is 2nd in the NHL. So, after scoring 7 goals and letting 6 in, I expect the Predators to get back to some normalcy against the Ducks. Look for the Ducks defense to take advantage of the Predators who should be feeling exhausted. I was originally going to take the UNDER in this hockey game, but these teams have a history of scoring goals against one another. Instead I am going to make a play on the Ducks to beat the Predators here today.

Pick – DUCKS TO WIN -149 (Best Odds)
