Back on the right train last night, with a winning pick coming through on the Washington Capitals. It was a flurry of late goals that sealed the deal, setting the Caps up for a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. It ended up being harder than it should have been, but money is money, and we collected at the window.
As we approach the start of the baseball season, the regular season in the NHL is winding down. That means the NHL Playoffs are right around the corner, too. It’s an exciting time to be a sports’ fan. The way I see it though, it’s a great time to pad the bankroll this spring.
For our Sunday NHL pick we head to the west coast in Anaheim for the Rangers and Ducks. The name of the game in Anaheim tonight is locking up spots in the playoffs and improving their seeding. As it stands now, the Rangers and Ducks haven’t clinched yet. However, it’s close to a lock at this point.
The Rangers are 45-25-4, and the Ducks are 40-23-11, 1st in the Pacific. To demonstrate the superiority of the Eastern Conference over the Western Conference this year, the Ducks are 1st with 40 wins, while the Rangers are a wildcard.
The Rangers were in L.A. last night, capturing a 3-0 win over the Kings. They turn their attention to the Ducks who had the night off on Saturday. The Ducks have won three of their last three games, and five in their last seven outings. Let’s get to our Rangers vs. Ducks pick below.
N.Y. Rangers vs. Anaheim Ducks Pick
Raanta played flawlessly in the 3-0 win against the Kings. Tonight it’ll be Henrik Lundqvist’s turn. Lundqvist is coming back from injury, his first game since March 7th. He’s hopefully gearing up for a long playoff run, all the way to the Stanley Cup.
For it to be possible, Lundqvist has to be playing elite level goaltending. He’s been rather average this season, posting a GAA of 2.65 with a 0.913 save percentage. For him, those are not the kind of numbers we expect. However, we’ll see how he responds after a few weeks to get healthy.
The defence has been playing much better hockey for the Rangers of late. It wasn’t the best of the starts for a team who are typically reliable on the defensive side. They’ve allowed 2.10 goals per game in their last ten games. Likewise, the Ducks are churning out strong place on the defensive end as well.
This is the Ducks, who have relied on a tough, physical defence for over a decade now. They’ve allowed just 1.80 goals per game in their last ten outings. Only one game since 2013 has seen more than 5 goals between the Rangers and Ducks, they’ve generally been low scoring affairs. I look for Lundqvist to take his crease back in an effective manner tonight in Anaheim. And for the Ducks, the odds makers should not be giving them 5.5 totals at this point. There looks to be some good value on the UNDER for our Sunday NHL pick.
PICK: UNDER 5.5 GOALS (-125)
