Red Wings vs. Penguins Pick – NHL February 19th

We head to Pittsburgh on Sunday for the NHL showcase game of Sunday and another winning pick put on the board. Last night it was relatively easy pickings, as the OVER was an easy winner for us in Dallas. Hopefully we can provide you guys with another easy NHL betting pick this afternoon in Pittsburgh. In what was a Stanley Cup matchup several years back, the Penguins continue to produce, while the Red Wings are falling off the map.

The Red Wings beat the Pens in 2008 for their last Stanley Cup, and then the following season, the Penguins returned the favor to capture the Stanley Cup. Since then, the Penguins and Sidney Crosby have added another Cup to their mantle. Crosby will be searching for his 3rd Stanley Cup with the Penguins this season. They have the team to do it, and will be up there as one of the favorites in the playoffs.

Conversely, Detroit are in the process of blowing their team up and starting anew. I think after Pavel Datsyuk retired last season there was a sign that this was going to be a major rebuilding process for the Red Wings. There was also a signal that was time for the youngsters in Detroit to take over. Everybody was looking at Dylan Larkin and Gustav Nyquist to carry that flag.

However, Larkin doesn’t exactly strike me as a leader. He’s also been in a major funk after enjoying so much success as a rookie a year ago. Larkin has only 12 goals and 7 assists in 56 games. Instead of improving on his tremendous rookie campaign, he’s fallen into a season long slump.

In other Red Wings’ news, Nyquist intentionally whacked a Wild player in the face last weekend. The ensuing result for Nyquist was a six-game suspension. Pittsburgh come in as heavy favorites over the 23-25-10 Red Wings. Head below to get our Red Wings vs Penguins pick for Sunday afternoon.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Pick

Gustav has been slumping as well, but the Wings cannot afford to be without him for six games. Nonetheless, I think he got off easy and the punishment wasn’t as bad as it should have been. The Red Wings have lost five straight games, so nothing seems to be working for them of late. They have a tough challenge against the Pens on the road this afternoon. Pittsburgh have been untouchable at home, with a record of 24-3-2 in Pittsburgh. If you want to get by the Pens in the playoffs, you’re going to have to beat them at home.

They’ve been particularly effective on offence, as they are 1st in the NHL, averaging a whopping 3.51 goals per game. While their overall body of work hasn’t been too pretty on defence, they’ve been starting to play much better. In their last ten games, the Pens have allowed 2.20 goals per game. They won their Stanley Cup last year due in part to their defence, but for the majority of the year it’s been non-existent. That might change, all the way into June.

Lately, though, they’ve been turning it up in the second-half of the season. The Red Wings have been absolutely lifeless, though, allowing an average of 3.30 goals per game in their last ten, while scoring just 2 goals per game. The Red Wings are just about done with regards to the playoffs. Pittsburgh should make quick work of them on Sunday afternoon. Our pick NHL pick for Sunday will be on the Penguins -1.5.

PICK: PENGUINS -1.5 (-110)
