That was more like it. The Flyers and Leafs got into a back and forth affair, easily surpassing the total of 6. It looked like a scrimmage on the pond for awhile there. The Leafs looked like they were going to cruise against the Flyers, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead. Things got crazy after that, as the Leafs couldn’t keep pace with the Philadelphia scoring onslaught. The Flyers earned a much needed 7-4 win against the hapless defense of the Leafs. Uh oh, here we go again with the Leafs. After winning six in a row, the team has now lost two in a row. Another loss and all confidence will be lost with the Leafs. That is how it goes, it is either going great or poorly. That sounds kind of familiar to me with how my NHL betting has gone thus far. The next couple of games are crucial. They pulled themselves to the top of the standings, but it is so tight that a few losses will drop them significantly. Nevertheless, it was a win for us on the OVER 6 and that is what matters to me. I also cashed in on my college football pick posted here on the blog, so it was a nice 2-0 day heading into Sunday.
Hoping to bring it again today, we look to the Sabres and Bruins in Boston for more winnings. It is a fairly big card for a Sunday in the NHL with the NFL going off as well today. I will be making some NFL plays that were already sent out to members, so I’ll be paying attention to both boards. The Sabres have been hot, no really, they have been. However, after losing two straight by scores of 5-1 each, they could easily revert back to how they were playing previously. The Sabres were winners of four straight before those two losses. They’ve clawed themselves from a deep hole to have a 13-17-1-1 record currently heading into their game with the Bruins tonight. For the Bruins, 16-14-1-2, they haven’t had the kind of success they have been used to enjoying. It has been a long time since we’ve seen the Bruins fighting for the playoffs, but if they don’t pick it up they’re going to be in that position.
Buffalo Sabres @ Boston Bruins
The Sabres have been much better of late, but they still have their problems playing on the road. They just got buried by the Avs last night, 5-1, and now need to fly out to Boston for their meeting with the Bruins today. The Sabres enter with a 4-10-0-0 road record. Buffalo is also losers in 4-1 of their last five games against the Bruins. Despite improving, the Sabres still have an inept offense. They scored just two goals in their last two games, and as a whole are averaging only 1.78 goals per game, which puts them as last in the NHL. The Bruin defense hasn’t been as strong as previous seasons, but they are still pretty solid, allowing 2.52 goals per game. Boston is scoring 2.42 goals per game, which is okay, but needs to get better for the rest of the year.
The Sabres have been painful to watch on offense, but this is a team that has struggled on defense as well, it isn’t only the offense to blame. In the last two games they let in 5 each. In the last five games the Sabres have allowed an average of 4 goals a game. Overall on the season they are giving up over 3 goals per game. With what should be an exhausted team tonight after getting worked last night against the Avalanche, the Bruins should be able to have their way with the Sabres. Buffalo struggles mightily on the road, and now they need to go to Boston on no rest. This is the type of game where the Bruins have to flex their muscle and bury their opponent. I think they do it. I’ll be playing the Bruins at -1.5 for Sunday.
