Sabres vs. Canucks Pick – NHL December 7th

A pretty bare card tonight in the NHL after a day of NFL football and MNF tonight. A profitable Sunday for us, as I swept my picks and went 4-0. Turning my attention to hockey tonight, with the Buffalo Sabres making the trip out west to meet with the Canucks. The Canucks haven’t been too attractive right now and it’s been hard to distinguish why they are playing so poorly. They have lost five straight games, the offense has been non-existent. In two games they didn’t even score a goal. The Canucks have slipped to 9-11-7-1 after slipping up recently. The Buffalo Sabres will look to add to their woes this evening. A loss to the Sabres would cap this all off and there would be people hitting the panic button in Vancouver. Rightfully so, an additional loss to a team like the Sabres would be a pretty poor effort by the Canucks.

The Sabres have had a nice turnaround from last season, not a major transformation to a team who is going to compete in the playoffs, or even make the playoffs, but they look to be heading in the right direction. The Sabres are 11-13-1-2 and have showed moments of what the future could look like. They drafted Jake Eichel after missing out on the Connor McDavid sweepstakes, who went to Edmonton, and is currently out with an injury. With McDavid absent, Eichel is playing well and making a case for rookie of the year already. You can’t have an opinion on anything if you don’t see it, and we haven’t seen enough of McDavid to hand him anything. I’m sure if he was playing it wouldn’t be a contest and McDavid would take it. Nevertheless, the Sabres have a good player in Eichel. He and the Sabres will look to keep the Canucks frustrated tonight.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Vancouver Canucks NHL Pick

The Canucks will go with Ryan Miller in net tonight. Miller has been a good goalie who could be having a better season. Tonight he will be playing his former team and would like nothing more but to have a good performance against them. But Miller had his best days in Buffalo, as a Canuck he has been okay but hasn’t been playing at more of an elite level like we seen as a Sabre. Miller enters with a 2.59 GAA on the season. He has already had two starts against his former team, allowing 5 goals in two games for a 2.51 GAA. Not great, not bad either. The Sabres have gotten the best of the Canucks in their previous two meetings, beating them 6-3 and 3-2.

I should stress that both of these teams haven’t been playing good hockey lately. The Sabres are 3-7 in their last ten games and the Canucks are 2-8. Something has to give here. The Canucks have been lackluster on both fronts, allowing 3.50 goals per game while scoring 2 per game. The Canucks have scored only 3 goals in the last five games. I think they finally hit a productive offensive showing tonight against the Sabres. They won’t continue to play this badly. The OVER has gone 7-2-1 in their last ten meetings. On one of the UNDERs it was a 3-2 final on a 5.5 total. Therefore, only one game has had more than 5 goals. The offenses wake up tonight.

PICK: OVER 5 GOALS (-110)
