Seattle Kraken vs. Calgary Flames Pick – NHL April 12, 2022

The Seattle Kraken and Calgary Flames are at the Saddledome on Tuesday night looking for two points. The Kraken have looked like an expansion team this season, as they enter tonight with a record of 23-45-6 and 52 points.

Seattle is 15 points behind the San Jose Sharks for next to next to last in the Pacific Division. They’re in a good spot to win the draft lottery, though still behind the Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes. The Coyotes currently have the worst record in the NHL at 22-45-5 and 49 points.

You didn’t expect the Kraken to do what the Vegas Golden Knights did, do you? That was a rare situation where the Golden Knights did something that will be remembered for a long time.

It’s not realistic to expect the same to happen for other expansion franchises. The Kraken are going into Calgary off a 4-1 loss versus the Flames in Seattle.

They’ve traded wins and losses recently, with five wins and five losses in their last ten attempts. We’ll see if they can show improvement in Calgary this time in the home and home.

Calgary is on a four-game winning streak after dropping three in a row. It didn’t take long for the Flames to get back on track again. They are 44-19-9 and 97 points with a seven-point lead on the Edmonton Oilers.

It isn’t time to put this season on ice and cruise to the finish line, though. Head below for our free Kraken vs. Flames prediction on April 12, 2022.

Kraken vs. Flames Prediction:

The Kraken have their work cut out for them in Calgary tonight. This is another tough assignment for the Kraken at the Saddledome. There isn’t anything that the Kraken have particularly done well.

They are 31st in the NHL with 2.56 goals scored per game and 28th with 28.9 shots per game. Their roster doesn’t have the most depth and struggles to produce offense consistently.

It doesn’t help that Jaden Schwartz is not active for the Kraken. He is OUT with a hand injury that requires surgery. Schwartz isn’t an elite goal scorer, but he’s a valuable forward that gives the Kraken depth.

The defense has not been able to make up for the lack of firepower. They are 24th in the league with 3.25 goals allowed per game. The Kraken had the right idea drafting Philipp Grubauer, but he hasn’t been in top form this season.

Grubauer owns a 3.12 GAA, and 0.891 save percentage a year after recording a 1.95 GAA and 0.922 with the Avalanche last year. That’s what can happen playing on a good team versus a bad one.

Seattle Kraken vs. Calgary Flames Betting Trends:

  • 2-4 overal in their previous six games
  • 1-7 overall in their previous eight games veruss the Pacific Division
  • 2-10 overall in their previous 12 games after their opponent allows 2 goals or fewer
  • UNDER is 4-1 in their previous five games
  • UNDER is 5-1 in thier previous six games versus the Western Conference
  • 6-3 overall in their previous nine games
  • OVER is 4-2 in their previous six games at home
  • OVER is 7-3 in their previous ten games on a Tuesday

The Flames can win on both ends of the ice, and they have a sizable advantage with Jacob Markstrom between the pipes. Markstrom has a 2.16 GAA and 0.925 savep ercentage. He has a 2.07 GAA in 34 games at the Saddledome this season.

Overall, the Flames are the second-best team in the NHL, with 2.46 goals against per game. They can score, too, with an average of 3.49 goals per game for sixth-best in the NHL.

As we saw on Saturday, this looks like a game where the Flames can grind the Kraken out with their defense. Seattle doesn’t have enough fireworks up front with their forwards to make this a competitive contest.

Look for the Flames to win here by a score of 4-2 or 5-2 at the Saddledome on Thursday night.
