Seattle Kraken vs. St. Louis Blues Pick – NHL April 6, 2022

The Seattle Kraken and St. Louis Blues drop the puck at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Wednesday night. The Kraken are in St. Louis looking for back-to-back wins following a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Sunday.

This season, they’ve looked good in spots, but every bad team has its moment. The first season for the Kraken has gone as expected for realists.

Looking for their first season to go as well as the Vegas Golden Knights did in their expansion year wasn’t realistic. Vegas did something highly improbable when they reached the Stanley Cup Final as an expansion team.

The Golden Knights were projected to do what the Kraken are doing this season. Seattle is going into Wednesday night with a record of 22-41-6 and 50 points in the Pacific Division.

They trail the San Jose Sharks by 17 points for second-last in the division. There is a wide gap between the Kraken and the rest of the Pacific.

The Canadiens and Coyotes are a point worse than the Kraken, so Seattle does not currently have the best draft lottery odds.

Before beating the Stars, the Kraken lost three of four games with just 2 goals scored in their previous two attempts. While the Kraken are looking to get lucky in the draft lottery, the Blues are gearing up for another Stanley Cup run.

The Blues have a win four of their last five outings, with a 5-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday. They were coming off an impressive 6-4 win over the Flames at the Saddledome on Saturday night.

Going into tonight, the Blues are 39-20-10 with 88 points. They are three points behind the Wild for second, and four points ahead of the Predators in the Central Division.

Kraken vs. Blues Prediction:

A team like the Blues is always going to be a dangerous opponent in the playoffs. They are well-rounded and have the depth to win a game with their offense or defense.

It’s the same formula that the Blues used to win the Stanley Cup in 2019. There weren’t any notable holes to exploit on that team, and the same could be said this season.

Jordan Binnington hasn’t had a season to remember, but Ville Husso has stepped up nicely. Husso is going into this evening with a 2.41 GAA, and 0.923 save percentage.

He is listed as the confirmed starter for the Blues, while Chris Driedger is expected in the crease for the Kraken. Driedger owns a 3.05 GAA, and 0.898 save percentage in 18 starts this season.

It’s a tough assignment for a Kraken team leaking goals. They are 25th in the NHL with 3.49 goals allowed per game.

The Kraken can’t afford to give up that many goals for a team with little offensive consistency. Seattle is 29th with 2.61 goals per game and 30th with 28.88 shots a game.

Seattle Kraken vs. St. Louis Blues Betting Trends:

  • 18-40 overall in their previous 58 games
  • 4-12 overall in their previous versus the Central Division
  • 5-17 overall in their previous 22 games after a win
  • 9-23 overall in their previous 32 games on the road
  • 1-6 overall in their previous seven games after conceding 2 or fewer goals
  • 17-5 overall in their previous 22 games versus the Western Conference
  • 8-2 overall in their previous ten games versus the Pacific Division
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games
  • 79-36 overall in their previous 115 games versus a team with a winning percentage worse than 40%
  • OVER is 7-2 in their previous nine games

The Blues have the offensive capabilities to make this one look easy tonight. They are fifth in the NHL with 3.59 goals per game and are feeling it now.

The Blues have scored 3.9 goals per game through their last ten outings. It’s been difficult to stop the Blues when they’re at the Enterprise Center as well. St. Louis has netted 3.69 goals a game at home this season.

After a big win for the Kraken, expect them to regress in St. Louis. They tend to do this, as the Kraken are 5-17 in their last 22 games following a win.

I will side with the Blues to win on the three-way moneyline to win in regulation on Wednesday night.
