Last nights pick was correct in more than one way you could say. Our UNDER 5 bet cashed in, and the Sabres played the Canadiens tough again. But not only did the Sabres play them tough this time, they actually pulled out the upset, 2-1. Winning games like that are about the only thing the Sabres can look forward to this year because they won’t be sniffing the playoffs. To the world it is a small victory, but to the Buffalo Sabres it means much more than that. They have wins over the Sharks and Canadiens this year, so they can hang their hats on that so far this season. They also destroyed the Maple Leafs, which had to make them quite good about themselves. Catching teams asleep at the wheel, like they did to the Canadiens last night, is going to be their biggest weapon. Despite this loss, the Canadiens are going to be fine moving forward. I don’t see them sustaining a lead atop the standings in the NHL, but I don’t see this as a cause for concern in Montreal. The Habs will look to avenge their loss against the Sabres tonight back at home in Montreal.
We look for our fourth straight winning pick in Tampa Bay tonight. Healthy Stamkos means a healthy amount of wins for the Lightning. Stamkos, predictably, has been off to a hot start, compiling 15 goals and 12 assists with 27 points. I don’t even know if you can call it hot, because this is par for the course for Steven Stamkos. There are also some other options on this Lightning roster that has made for a fairly successful season thus far in 2014. With a record of 15-6-0-2, the Lightning look to improve on that as they welcome the Ottawa Senators to the sunshine state for a Saturday night tilt. This will be the Senators fourth game on the road in a row, conversely, the Lightning are enjoying their third in a row at home. Home sweet home for the Lightning this season, where they have been 9-2-0-1. The Senators will try and focus tonight after losing to a terrible Florida Panthers team, 3-2. Let’s see who has the upper-hand in this Saturday night clash.
Ottawa Senators @ Tampa Bay Lightning
I am pretty sure this is the first Lightning game I have a write-up on this season. I can’t say that’s a good thing, because if I did have a few more, I probably would have won some money off them this season. With a 15-6-0-2 record, they have been making someone money out there. Any time you think Stamkos you think offense, and that is what this team brings to the equation tonight. The Lightning are among the best in the NHL, scoring 3.48 goals per game which now puts them ahead of the Penguins for 1st in the league, a spot the Pens had all season long. Look for the Lightning to continue to score tonight, and for the remainder of the season. Half of their last ten games have resulted in 4 or more goals.
The Senators already beat the Lightning this season at home by a score of 3-2 in a shootout. That was in the early stages of the 2014-15 season, however. At home the Lightning should be able to extract some revenge in Tampa. This will be the Senators’ 7th game on the road in their last 9 games. The Lightning are all about speed and playing up-tempo. That is not a good sign for a team that hasn’t had the benefit of sleeping in their own bed lately. I don’t see Ottawa being focused tonight, while Tampa should be playing on their own rink. We go for another winner tonight, riding the back of the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Sens with a nice price of +144 on -1.5.
