Senators vs. Penguins Game 2 Pick – NHL May 15th

The Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins get back at it for Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Finals matchup. Ottawa seized the moment, and rode Bobby Ryan and Craig Anderson to a win in Game 1. It may have been a surprising victory to some, but don’t tell the Senators that. Ottawa won off a pretty Bobby Ryan overtime goal, including the hot hand of Anderson in net. Did the Penguins play their best? No, in fact they played tired and uninspired. The Pens looked like a team who were worn out as a result of their series against the Capitals.

Marc-Andre Fleury stole the show in Game 7 against Washington, and played the part brilliantly in Game 1 against Ottawa. However, the offense couldn’t help him out much, with the only outstanding play I really recall was the pretty tip from Malkin to square things up before going to overtime. Ottawa were what I would consider the aggressors in Game 1. It’s only one game, though, and the Penguins are one of the most resilient teams you’re going to find in the NHL. Get more of our thoughts, and Senators vs. Penguins Game 2 pick below.

Ottawa Senators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Game 2 Pick

Fleury did his best, stopping 33 of 35 shots, but the Senators’ 35th shot proved to be the difference maker in Game 1. You can’t win many games allowing that many shots, and I would be surprised if we don’t see their defence shape up and put forth a much better effort in Game 2. Sidney Crosby also didn’t facilitate much in the way of production for the Pens, either. Both of those elements for the Penguins should be better in Game 2. Crosby, especially, rarely plays dead for two consecutive games.

Ottawa played well in Game 1 but the Penguins were flat throughout the contest. I would be surprised if we see a similar effort in Game 2. Anderson played out of his mind, which could happen again, but I see the Pens opening this game up. The Penguins aren’t going to Ottawa down two games. Pittsburgh hasn’t really played their best in three of their last four games, but I think in Game 2, they finally look like the high-powered unit we are accustomed to watching. The Pens take this one and get it by at least 2 goals.

PICK: PENGUINS -1.5 (+110)
