Sharks vs. Blues Game 5 Pick – NHL Playoffs May 23rd

Hello St. Louis Blues, welcome to the series. In what amounted to a last ditch effort, the Blues came out like a different team. Roles were completely flipped, with the Sharks looking like the Blues of Game 4 and the Blues looking like the Sharks. The Sharks could have buried the Blues but they put on that display, pathetic. I give a lot of credit to Ken Hitchcock in this spot, he rallied the troops and got the Blues in order with their heads on straight. Because prior to Game 5 I don’t know where their heads were. Martin Jones hadn’t allowed a goal at home for an absurd amount of time, in Game 4 he got hit for 6 goals.

Could this series be a Neuvirth type scenario? Remember when the Flyers made the change to him in the Capitals series? It changed in favor of the Flyers, but they made it too late. Now Jake Allen didn’t put on some epic display, but it was enough to provide a jolt to the Blues. We expect Allen in goal for the Blues again tonight. Note that I’m in Las Vegas and writing this article in a sportsbook so I’m going to jump straight to my thoughts.

San Jose Sharks vs. St Louis Blues NHL Playoffs

I was anticipating one bad start for Martin, I expected it in the upcoming game in St. Louis not in San Jose where he’s been flawless, looking like a goalie that could not only steal a series but a Stanley Cup. In Game 4 the camels back was broken. Martin got rocked before getting pulled and the onslaught continued. The Sharks’ offense tried to make a game of it but it was far too much to overcome.

The Blues went to the tape hard of this series and plugged up their holes in a big way. Now with the series in St.Louis I would say the puck is in the Blues corner now. I really don’t know how Martin is going to respond to this. He has never been in this spot before. Will he rise up or crumble? One thing is for certain, this game is going to make for one heck of a hockey game. It’s going to be a battle. I think the Blues found a weakness in the Sharks, I think their potent offensive attack will carry over to home. I wanted to side with the notion of regression and less goals tonight, but I have to bet more goals come our way. Allen will start, who didn’t get much work. I didn’t think he was too impressive. I like goals to be scored tonight so I’m siding with the OVER.

PICK: OVER 5 (-115)
