My goodness, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Dallas Stars for a much needed victory last night. It was a rather unexpected win for the Leafs, who have been struggling severely at the start of the season. Conversely, the Stars have been on fire. So the result didn’t really add up, a 4-1 win the Leafs, but that is in the NHL for you. The Leafs aren’t going to be on the winning side against good teams too often this season, so it was a nice feel good night for the Leafs. The Leafs also got outstanding goaltending from James Reimer. Reimer made some dandy saves to keep the Leafs ahead, just kind of frustrating as I was on the OVER there and he hadn’t been able to stop a beach ball up until that game. All against one of the best offenses in the NHL. The Leafs also had a goal overturned in the 1st period after a review which deemed they were offside entering the zone. That is a new rule this season where more plays are reviewable. For as long as the NHL has been around that would have a goal. Hopefully this new rule helps us out and doesn’t bite us in the future.
Such a good start to the NHL for me has been washed away with unfortunate beats like that one last night. For the most part, it has been one goal that has decided the outcome. In a low scoring sport like hockey, I can’t go on that much of a rant. Now if it were football, that would be pretty ridiculous. But anyways, moving on to Tuesday, where I go back to a Dallas Stars game after the loss yesterday. The Stars after their loss travel all the way to Boston for tonight. The Bruins after a pretty sketchy start have begun to play good hockey. They’ve been winning in a way that we aren’t familiar with, they have been burying the puck scoring with ease. What we know of the Bruins in previous seasons is that they rely on the defense to win games, thus far anyway. The defense suffered major setbacks in the offseason, so the offense may have to keep it up. I don’t want to lose in disappointing fashion yet again tonight. Let’s search out a winner.
Dallas Stars vs. Boston Bruins Pick
It isn’t on quite the same level, but Sunday night Peyton Manning reversed the hands of time to deliver a big performance against the Green Bay Packers. I don’t think too many people saw it coming. Last night, not many people seen the Leafs beating the Stars last night. I said before providing my pick that the line looked funny. Unfortunately I didn’t react on my intuition and went with another pick. The Bruins enter tonight with a 6-3-1 record. The Leafs were able to slow Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Benn leads the NHL with 10 goals and 18 points.
Rask and the defense didn’t start off well for the Bruins. They were getting lit up like a Christmas tree. But there has been positive signs lately for them. In their last three games they have allowed only 2 goals. As far as the goal scoring is concerned, they keep scoring, they have slowed down in that aspect. The Bruins are 1st in the NHL with 3.90 goals scored per game. I think they catch the Stars sleeping after having to cross customs and make the quick turnaround for this one against the Bruins. The price in this game went up pretty much immediately after it was released. I have to put a lean on the OVER with a play on the Bruins.
