The NHL is set up with another great night of action on Wednesday. Seven games will be up on the board throughout February 24. One of these games will be between the Dallas Stars and the Florida Panthers. These two teams will look to grab a big win in a tight Central Division. This game will drop the puck at around 5:00 PM Eastern time.
The Stars have put up a record of 5-4-4 to start out this new season, which has them in sixth place of the Central Division. Dallas has lost six games in a row and eight of their last nine. The Stars had a promising 4-0 start to the season, but have since hit a wall. Dallas will look to turn it around in this one with a win as they try to climb back up the standings.
Florida has started out this new season with a record of 12-3-2, which has them in the top spot of the Central Division. The Panthers have been on fire throughout this season and will look to keep it up in this one. Florida has won four of their last five games and will look to give a loss to Dallas in this one. I expect the Panthers to come out hot once again in this one as they try to grab the win.
These two teams have put up very different starts to this season. The Panthers have been able to jump up to the top spot in the Central Division, while Dallas has faltered a bit. The Stars still have plenty of time to turn it around though, but need to start getting some wins now. I expect both teams to come out quick as they meet in the second half of a back to back.
The Stars and the Panthers met up once last season. Florida hosted the game on December 20. Tyler Seguin had two goals, while Corey Perry had two assists on the night. It was not enough though. Noel Acciari had three goals and an assist. Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and three assists as well, while Vincent Trocheck had a goal and two assists. The Panthers were able to grab a 7-4 win.
The first game of this season series was also in Florida on February 22. Blake Comeau opened up the scoring with a goal in the first period. Aaron Ekblad, Keith Yandle and Aleksander Barkov each had a goal though to help the Panthers take over. Anton Khudobin stopped 49 of the 51 shots he faced, but it was not enough. Chris Driedger finished with 24 saves on 25 shots as Florida won 3-1.
The Panthers have won two games in a row against Dallas coming into this one. Florida is looking to keep it going on Wednesday night. These two teams have been solid this season and are coming off a great matchup on Monday night. The Stars were heavily outshot in that loss, but Khudobin kept them in it. Dallas will need to get the offense going in this one.
Dallas has been really strong on the power play this season and have been solid on the penalty kill. The Stars have been able to capitalize on 16 of their 49 power play opportunities, which is a 32.7 percent power play. Dallas has killed off 42 of opposing teams 53 power play chances, which is a 79.3 percent kill rate. The Stars will look to keep this going in this one.
The Panthers have also been doing really well on the power play, but their penalty kill has struggled. Florida has been able to score on 14 of their 49 power play attempts, which is a 28.6 percent success rate. The Panthers have given up 10 goals on 49 penalties against, which is a 79.6 percent penalty kill. Florida will look to step up once again in this one.
These two teams have had strong power plays so far this season. The Stars have the slight edge with their power play in this one. Both teams have put up very similar numbers on the penalty kill as well this season. I expect both teams to try and set the pace on the power play in this one to try and give their team the edge on Wednesday night.
I expect Anton Khudobin to get the start between the pipes for Dallas in this one. Khudobin has started 8 games this season, going 3-4-1 this season. He has posted a .915 save percentage and a GAA of 2.66 in this one. Khudobin started in Monday night’s game against the Panthers, where he stopped 49 of 51 shots in the loss.
Sergei Bobrovsky will likely get the nod in the crease for the Panthers on Wednesday night. Bobrovsky has earned a record of 5-2-1 through his 8 starts this season. He has put up a save percentage of .889 and a 3.18 GAA. Bobrovsky finished with 25 saves on 27 shots against the Detroit Red Wings in his last start, which was not enough for the win.
These two goalies have had solid starts to this season. Bobrovsky has had the better record this season, but Khudobin has had the better save percentage and a GAA. These two teams have struggled throughout this season so far. I expect both goalies to try and come out quickly in this one to help give their team the edge in this one.
These two teams are looking to compete in the Central Division. The Stars are coming off six straight losses as they enter this one. Dallas has not been great as of late, but I think that the Stars could break through with a win in this one. The Stars have an edge on special teams in this one and have a strong goaltender. Dallas will look to get a win in this one against Florida on Wednesday night.
BetOnline has the Panthers listed as a -114 against the money line in this one. This implies that Florida will win this game around 53.3 percent of the time. The Panthers have been strong throughout this season, which makes this line make sense. I think that the Stars can step up in this one though to grab the win.
