The Nashville Predators continue to plead their case for favourites to win the Stanley Cup. The Preds have been hot lately, and have consistently played as one of the best teams in the league all season long. Nashville came close a year ago, but the Penguins were just too much. This season they’re playing a team who might be able to finish the job in the playoffs. The Preds should thank the Canadiens for handing P.K. Subban over to them. They did have to say goodbye to Shea Weber, but it’s pretty clear who won that trade.
Shea Weber is on the shelf the rest of the reason, while Subban continues to lead his team back to the playoffs and potentially much more than that. Subban is more than just a talent on the ice, he’s more of a leader and locker room energizer than Weber. It isn’t going to be long before we’ll see if the Predators can cap of this season with a Stanley Cup. Expectations here are high. When you reach the finals, a championship or bust mentality the next is the only theme of the year.
The Predators have won eight straight games, bringing their record to an impressive 42-14-4. It puts them in 1st in the Western Conference with 93 points. They trail the Tampa Bay Lightning by a point for the overall NHL lead. Either the Lightning or Predators are going to fail getting to the Stanley Cup Final. I can’t say which, but I can see one or the other getting to the final round of the playoffs. The Predators take on the Stars tonight at home, as they put their eight-game winning streak on the line. Head below for our free Stars vs. Predators pick.
Dallas Stars vs. Nashville Predators Pick
The Stars are holding on for dear life as they hope to hang on to the playoffs. They’re bunched up with a few other teams who are contending for a wildcard. Dallas are currently 3 points up on the Kings and 4 points on the Avalanche. They’ve won four of their last ten games and are coming off an ugly 5-3 loss to the Senators. The Stars are a wildcard team right now, and overall, this team is a bit of a wildcard. They are capable of going on runs, but they’re also capable of getting nipped lately. If they reach the playoffs, their current play isn’t going to work.
Meanwhile, the Predators have been on fire. During this eight-game winning streak, the Predators have averaged 4.62 goals per game. The offence has scored at least 4 goals in seven of eight games. Dallas have improved considerable as a defensive team this season, but they’re still an average unit in that respect. The Predators have had no issues scoring on this team. In their last five meetings, they’ve scored an average of 4.8 goals per game. Combined, the Stars and Predators averaged 7.4 goals per in those five games. The OVER has gone 6-1 in their last seven meetings. We should see at least 6 goals in this matchup. I’d take a look at the OVER in Tennessee tonight.
PICK: OVER 5.5 (-110)
