The Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers are at FLA Live Arena on Friday night in one of two NHL matchups. It’s a small card in the NHL, with the New York Islanders and Montreal Canadiens the other contest on the ice tonight.

The Jets and Panthers seem a little more interesting to me than the matchup in Quebec. This is another desperation game for the Jets, as they look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. It’s not impossible, but this gets more difficult every day.
Winnipeg is going into tonight with a record of 35-28-11 and 81 points in the Central Division. It’s been an alright season, but alright isn’t enough to make the playoffs in the NHL. The NHL isn’t the NBA where a bad regular season can still be good enough for the postseason.
Following a back-to-back, the Jets had a nice break. On Monday, they are coming off a 4-2 win over the Canadiens for their second straight win. The Jets also knocked off the Senators the day before in a 4-3 win.
The Jets need everything working on Friday night to pick up two points against the Panthers. Florida leads the Atlantic with a record of 52-15-6 and 110 points. They’re eight points up on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the division and feeling comfortable.
Feeling too comfortable isn’t always the best going into the playoffs, though. Just ask the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have had regular seasons like this and then empty in the spring for the playoffs.
The Panthers have an eight-game winning streak following a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks in overtime on Tuesday. This winning streak includes a 7-6 OT victory over the Leafs in overtime on April 5.

Jets vs. Panthers Prediction:
The Panthers are the wrong team to get into a high-scoring track meet against on the ice. The Maple Leafs thought they had them, but the Panthers didn’t quit and scored 7 goals in overtime for a 7-6 win.
If the Panthers turn this into a fast game tonight, it’s going to be tough for the Jets to keep up. This is often what the Panthers do to teams. They dictate the pace and bury teams with their dangerous forwards.
The Panthers are first in the NHL, with an average of 4.14 goals scored per game. They put a ton of shots on target and make the most of their chances. With an average of 37.6 shots a game, the Panthers are first in that regard as well.
In their previous ten attempts, the Panthers netted 4.6 goals per game. Despite conceding 3.3 goals a game, they were still too tough and won nine of ten games with their offensive firepower. It’s hard to win against a team that doesn’t slow down on the attack in their opponent’s defensive zone.
Winnipeg Jets vs. Florida Panthers Betting Trends:
- 5-1 overall in their previous six games on the road
- 3-7 overall in their previous ten games as an underdog
- OVER is 4-0 in their previous four games as an underdog
- OVER is 10-3 in their previous 13 games after allowing 2 or fewer goals
- OVER is 12-3-2 in their previous 17 games on a Friday
- 43-9 overall in their previous 52 games
- 63-18 overall in their previous 81 games as a betting favorite
- OVER is 6-2 in their previous eight games versus the Central Division
- OVER is 18-6-2 in their previous 26 games as a betting favorite at home
- OVER is 17-6-3 in their previous 26 games versus the Jets
The Jets have an offense, but it’s going to be tough against the Panthers tonight. Winnipeg is scoring over 3 goals per game at 3.08 a game. However, they’ve allowed 3.4 goals per game in their previous ten attempts.
The Jets will be required to play much better defense than they have recently. Connor Hellebuyck could step up as well. He enters Sunrise with a 2.93 GAA and 0.911 save percentage.
Expect a high-scoring contest between the Jets and Panthers at FLA Live Arena. There has been an average of 9.3 goals in their last six meetings. There have been at least seven goals in five of their previous nine outings.
Look for another OVER game at FLA Live Arena. This should probably be a total of 7 instead of 6.5 goals tonight in Sunrise.
