Winnipeg Jets vs. New Jersey Devils Pick – NHL March 10, 2022

The Winnipeg Jets and New Jersey Devils are scheduled to meet at the Prudential Center on Thursday night. Winnipeg is in town following a 7-4 win at home versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Jets were in danger of losing their third straight before an impressive showing versus the Bolts. However, the win was only their third in the previous nine attempts. The Jets are going into Newark with a record of 25-22-10 and sixth in the Central Division with 60 points.

They are going to need better work down the stretch if the Jets are going to be playing playoff hockey. Even if the Jets find a way into the playoffs, their odds of success don’t look the best.

They are one of those average teams that can go through marvelous stretches and then be completely lost at other times. The Jets’ offense showed up for a big performance, which they needed after Connor Hellebuyck allowed 4 goals on 24 shots for a 0.833 save percentage.

It was a nice response for the Jets following a 4-3 loss in OT to the Dallas Stars and 4-1 to the New York Rangers. Against a solid team like the Lightning, it had to be a nice confidence boost, but this team still isn’t consistent and could flop right back.

The Devils are coming off a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. Talking about confidence boosters. That’s a big one for the Devils to follow up in that form after a 3-2 win in overtime against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.

Jets vs. Devils Prediction:

If only the New Jersey Devils could figure it out with their defense they’d be alright. Instead, the Devils are 21-31-5 with 47 points and next to last in the Metropolitan Division.

They gave conceded 3.53 goals per game for 26th in the NHL. It’s been a problem throughout the season for the Devils.

Their offense has been doing it all to try and make this a competitive team, but the backcheck could be considerably better for the forwards. The same goes for goaltending.

Nico Daws is the confirmed starter for the Devils between the pipes. Daws owns a 2.75 GAA and a 0.906 save percentage in eight games.

He’s allowed a minimum of 3 goals in three of his previous four attempts in the crease. In the Devils’ previous ten games overall, they’ve conceded 3.7 goals per game.

Fortunately for New Jersey, the offense has been rolling with 4.2 goals scored per game during that span. The offense should work against a struggling Winnipeg defensive unit.

Winnipeg Jets vs. New Jersey Devils Betting Trends:

  • 3-9 overall in their previous 12 games
  • 2-7 overall in their previous nine games after a win
  • OVER is 5-1 in their previous six games
  • OVER is 4-1 in their previous five games as a betting favorite
  • OVER is 4-1 in their previous five games versus the Devils
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games versus the Western Conference
  • 2-6 overall in their previous eight games after a win
  • OVER is 19-9-2 in their previous 30 games as an underdog
  • OVER is 7-2-1 in their previous ten games after a win
  • OVER is 4-1-1 in their previous six games versus the Western Conference

The Jets have been off the mark with 3.8 goals allowed per game. Connor Hellebuyck must be better, but he’s been unreliable for the most part.

Hellebuyck has posted a 2.97 GAA and a 0.908 save percentage in 48 games this season. In four games in March, Hellebuyck has posted a 3.98 GAA and a 0.861 save percentage.

It’s easy to see why the Jets have given up 3.8 goals a game in their previous ten outings. That said, the offense has been in good form, with 3.7 goals recorded per game. Overall, they are scoring 3 goals per game.

This looks like it should play out to be an entertaining contest in Newark. A final score of 4-3 or 5-3 certainly looks possible, point to the OVER on the total.
