Colorado Buffaloes vs. UCLA Bruins Pick – NCAAB January 14, 2023

The Colorado Buffaloes and UCLA Bruins are in primetime on Saturday night at Pauley Pavillion. This is a matchup featured on national television on FOX tonight. We are looking at the Colorado vs. UCLA odds for our best bets and predictions in Los Angeles.

Colorado needs to get going soon or going to be left out of the NCAA Tournament picture. It is only mid-January and Colorado does not have much room for error now. They are in California with a record of 11-7 following a 68-61 loss at USC.

The Buffaloes do not have to travel far, as they have another assignment in Los Angeles two days later at UCLA. The next four days of their schedule are free. Colorado will host Washington at home on Thursday.

UCLA and Arizona are the only teams that are currently ranked on the rest of Colorado’s schedule. It is not a tough road for Colorado, but going on the road has been a difficult experience. We would feel more confident in the Buffaloes if they didn’t have to go on the road.

The Bruins carry a record of 15-2 and have won 12 straight games going into Friday night. They haven’t lost since an 80-75 loss to Baylor on a neutral court on November 20. In their latest outing, the Bruins cleared Utah by a score of 68-49 at home on Thursday night.

Colorado vs. UCLA Predictions

UCLA is No. 7 in the AP Top 25 and have room to get into the top-5 before too long. They are one of the more balanced teams in the NCAA and pass the eyeball test. There are better shooting teams out there in college basketball, but not many that can do everything well.

Having the ability to adapt and make adjustments to an opponent in the NCAA Tournament is important for a successful March and April. Mick Cronin’s squad has been able to do this en route to a record of 15-2 going into Saturday night.

If the Bruins are interested tonight, they should add a 16th win to their resume. Are they covering 12 points, though? UCLA has covered 10 of 17-point spreads this season. Colorado is just 1-4 against the spread on the road this season.

UCLA Look To Remain Perfect At Home

The Bruins are 10-0 at Pauley Pavillion in 2022-23. Both of their losses were on a neutral court earlier this season. They’ve protected their home court and should be in good shape on Saturday, as well.

Overall, the Bruins are 17th in the nation with 60.1 points against per game. They’ve been strong on the perimeter and have not allowed teams to get comfortable from beyond the arc.

Opponents are shooting just 29.1% from three against UCLA. The Bruins have allowed an impressive 56.9 points per game and 26% from three at home.

This is going to put a lot of stress on Colorado to hit their open opportunities. The Buffaloes are 255th with a three-point percentage of 32.4%. Hitting jumpers has not been a strong point of Colorado.

Colorado is also shooting just 66.1% from the free-throw line. It has not exactly been a charity stripe for the Buffaloes this season. That is not how to stay in this game against UCLA.

The Buffaloes Have To Win With Defense

If Colorado is going to win on the road tonight, they are going to have to try to ugly this game up. Do not expect Colorado to score, so they need a big defensive effort. The Buffaloes have been fine, with 66.7 points allowed per game.

However, in five games on the road, the defense has held up the best. They are giving up just shy of 75 points a game and a 48.1% field goal percentage. Colorado might show some effort in the first half, but can’t keep up after halftime.

Colorado vs. UCLA Betting Pick:

The Bruins should be successful at forcing Colorado into bad shots. Getting good looks has been a weak point all season for the Buffaloes. It is not going to suddenly get better on the road at Pauley Pavillion.

When Colorado needs the three balls to fall, UCLA is not going to allow many easy chances. The Bruins have allowed a three-point percentage of 24.5% in their previous five outings.

This does not look like a good matchup for Colorado. Colorado has already struggled to work well outside of the paint and now have an assignment against the best perimeter defense in the Pac-12.

For our Colorado vs. UCLA prediction, we are looking at a final score of 71-56 for a win and cover in favor of the Bruins.
