There are more than a few race tracks available for betting on Friday afternoon and evening. Some of the big players are offering cards, with Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, and Woodbine running. The $150,000 Dominion Day Stakes (Gr. 3) at Woodbine is the feature on Friday.

The Fourth of July long weekend has a $750,000 Breeders’ Cup Challenge event at Churchill Downs. It should be a quality card at Churchill Downs on Saturday afternoon.

As far as Friday is concerned, we have picks at Laurel Park and Gulfstream Park this afternoon. Gulfstream Park has eight races worth $298,000 in Hallandale Beach. Head below for our best Gulfstream Park picks on July 1, 2022.

  • Distance:1 Mile
  • Purse: $17,000

The second event of the day at Gulfstream Park is a mile for a $17,000 purse. This is a race on the dirt that should see Pearlintherough and Science Friction has the advantage.

Pearlintherough has a win in nine events in her career. She has finished 4th, 2nd, 4th in her previous three outings. It was on October 4, 2021 that she won the first race of her career.

The filly has gone without a win in seven straight events since then. Pearlintherough placed 2nd behind Manuela by a 1 ¼ length on May 19 for a $17,000 purse.

That was a pretty strong effort, but she fell off to 4th on June 12 in the same class. Science Friction probably has the better chance from the inside.

Science Friction is 2 for 9 and should run a better race on Friday. She’s finished 4th, 7th, 2nd in her previous three events.

After placing 2nd for a $34,000 assignment on March 17, she regressed to 7th for $35,000 and then 4th most recently in a $26,000 race. Moving further down in class, expect Science Friction to be too good in this one.

Race 3

(1) Southern Breeze
+450 (9/2)
(2) Anthracite
+300 (3/1)
(3) Ruthless Intent

(7) Tarashooq
+1500 (15/1)
  • Post Time:3:55 p.m. EST
  • Distance: 1 Mile
  • Purse: $50,000

Race 3 is a mile dirt race for a $50,000 prize. Look closely at Anthracite and Logic as top contenders in this one.

Anthracite has four career starts and four losses, with his best finish on May 12 in his latest attempt. He showed 3rd in a $50,000 event for improved form.

Before that trip, Anthracite finished 4th in the same grade. If Anthracite continues on progressing well, this could turn into a win on Friday.

Logico has lost eight career starts, but is another that can show improvement to the winner’s circle on Friday. He finished 5th, 2nd, 2nd in his previous three starts.

After placing 2nd in back-to-back $60,000 events, Logico transferred to Churchill Downs for a $120,000 race. That didn’t go as planned, with Logico finished 5th but it was good experience.

Back to Gulfstream Park in a $50,000 start, this has to be the most likely winner in Race 3.

(3) R Private Jet

  • Post Time:4:59 p.m. EST
  • Distance:1 Mile
  • Purse:$38,000

Our final play at Gulfstream Park on Friday is a $38,000 event covering a mile on the dirt. Tapsasional and R Private Jet are hot contenders this early evening.

Tapsasional is a three-time winner in 21 attempts. He’s 3rd, 1st, 5th in his most recent starts. It was nice work from Tapsasional to win a $48,000 race on May 8.

That was a close one at the wire, with Tapsasional prevailing by a neck. He returned on June 11 to show 3rd for $51,000. Tapsasional has to be considered on this class drop.

R Private Jet is putting together a nice resume and looking for a hat trick in only his third outing. He beat Captain Cajun by 7 ¼ lengths for a $48,000 prize in his last start on May 22. Impressive drive.

R Private Jet was able to follow up nicely after a $36,000 win by 3 ¾ lengths. Overall, he’s finished 1st, 1st, 8th, 1st, 7th.

Note that he’s running really well in workouts as well. R Private Jet was clocked at 47.37 and 47.14 seconds at 4 furlongs. He is in nice form and should clear this field if R Private Jet is in the mood.
