Laurel Park Selections for February 20, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

The first 50-20-10-5 Road to the Kentucky Derby prep race is in the books. Epicenter won gate-to-wire to earn 50 points towards the Kentucky Derby in May.

Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

He had to fend off Smile Happy in the stretch, but held on for the $400,000 stakes win and 50 points for the Kentucky Derby. There are still plenty of opportunities in the future for teams to earn points for the Derby.

This Sunday afternoon, you aren’t going to find much stakes racing, but there are many racecourses available for wagering. You can find Aqueduct Racetrack, Oaklawn Park, Fair Grounds, and Santa Anita Park on the Sunday card.

We’re at Aqueduct and Laurel Park this afternoon. For horse racing picks at Aqueduct, access our Aqueduct Racetrack page. Laurel Park has eight races worth $363,000 in prize money. Head below for our best Laurel Park picks for February 20, 2022.

Post Time: 1:27 p.m. EST
Distance:6 Furlongs
Purse:$30,000

Race 3 is a 6-furlong event for a $30,000 purse at Laurel Park. Consider looking at what I Am the Cash Man and Johnny Swish bring to this race.

He is 2nd, 3rd in two races, placing 2nd behind Saponara by 2 ¼ lengths in a $21,000 purse. I Am the Cash Man came back to show 3rd on February 3 for $32,100.

In two career starts, I Am the Cash Man has been competitive and should hold up well in this grade on Sunday. Johnny Swish has to be considered in this spot as well.

The No. 6 is winless in seven attempts, but coming along nicely. Johnny Swish finished 7th, 4th, 2nd in his previous three races.

In his latest showing, he placed 2nd behind Thruster by a nose in a $32,100 assignment. That was good work from Johnny Swish after finishing 4th on January 16 for $44,037 in prize money.

This looks like a good opportunity for Johnny Swish to find the winner’s circle.

Post Time: 1:57 p.m. EST
Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
Purse:$41,400

Race 4 covers 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for a $41,400 purse. Armando R and Thundershook are expected to hang tough in the stretch run.

Armando R is 4 for 16 and finished 1st, 8th, 1st in his previous three attempts. He is coming off a $63,936 win and has to be respected.

Armando R beat Mohafeeth after getting it together in the stretch. Three races back in November, he defeated Inspector Frost by 1 ½ lengths for a $25,530 race.

Thundershook is 11 for 37 and is coming off a strong performance on January 4. He showed 3rd on December 15 in a $30,000 race.

Thundershook came back with a win by 4 ¾ lengths over Big City Bob for $29,000. That was too easy, so it’s up in class here

For the better value, I’m pointing towards Armando R to spring a small upset in Race 4.

The Bet
(5) ARMANDO R

(9) Crownedcountcristo
+300 (3/1)

Post Time: 2:27 p.m. EST
Distance:6 Furlongs
Purse:$38,400

Race 5 is a 6-furlong for a $38,400 purse on the dirt. Pederson’s Courage and Crownedcountcristo should get involved in the stretch run.

Pederson’s Courage is a one-timer through nine attempts, with a winning performance on November 14. He defeated Liberty Star by 1 ¼ lengths in a $42,315 event on November 14.

Pederson’s Courage placed 2nd behind Whatchasaid by a nose for $41,472 on February 4. That was a decent response after finishing 7th in a $65,250 event on December 30.

Dropping down to $38,400, Pederson’s Courage should have a chance at the wire. Crownedcountcristo is 2nd, 6th, 2nd in his previous three assignments, placing 2nd in his latest by 2 ½ lengths for $29,875.

Prior to that outing, Crownedcountcristo finished 6th for a $42,000 purse on November 18. After a solid performance at the $29,875 level, he’s back up in class with a decent chance.

I’m going to give Pederson’s Courage the edge over the field in Race 5.

The Bet
(6) PEDERSON’S COURAGE
