Let’s go back to the racetrack on Monday evening. We are in Iowa and West Virginia for more horse racing picks at TheSportsGeek. There is horse racing action throughout the afternoon and into the evening hours under the lights.

Prairie Meadows And Mountaineer Park
Prairie Meadows and Mountaineer are both in our sights on the Monday card. Mountaineer Park has racing throughout the evening, while Prairie Meadows opens in the early evening.

Mountaineer Park has eight races, five on the dirt and three on the turf. There is a total of $126,700 in prize money available to be won. Head below for our best Mountaineer Park picks on August 15, 2022.

  • Post Time:7:00 p.m. EST
  • Distance:1 Mile
  • Purse: $16,500

The opener at Mountaineer Park covers a mile for a $16,500 purse. Look for Pretty Loud and A Late One to put together big performances for the top prize tonight.

Pretty Loud is winless in 22 attempts and finished 5th, 3rd, 5th in his previous three starts. Two races back, Pretty Loud showed 3rd in a $16,500 event.

In his latest start, he finished 5th for a $16,500 purse on August 7. Improvement is required, but he should be competitive and has a good price to go with his name.

A Late One has finished 5th and 8th in two career starts. In his most recent start, A Late One finished 5th for $34,000 on July 12. This was after finishing 8th on May 21 for a $120,000 purse at Churchill Downs.

Down to $16,500, A Late One should be the top contender to go to the winner’s circle.

  • Post Time:8:40 p.m. EST
  • Distance:6 Furlongs
  • Purse: $8,500

Race 5 covers 6 furlongs for an $8,500 purse tonight. Check Six and Breaking the Code are high on my list to win.

Check Six is 8 for 53 and finished 4th, 2nd, 4th in her previous three starts. Two races back, Check Six placed 2nd behind Manhattan Lady by 4 ½ lengths on July 18 for a $12,600 purse.

Following that win, Check Six finished 4th in an $11,000 event on July 24. Not all that bad. Dropping in class to $8,500 should help put Check Six back on winning terms.

Race 7

(1) Emperorofthedark
+250 (5/2)
(2) Energizer
+160 (8/5)
(3) Perth Amboy
+1500 (15/1)
(4) Rescue Five
+500 (5/1)
(5) Baytown Frosty
(6) Weld
(7) Bankx Turbo
+1200 (12/1)
  • Post Time:9:30 p.m. EST
  • Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
  • Purse:$23,800

Race 7 is a $23,800 event covering 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Consider playing Emperorofthedark and Energizer in the seventh.

Emperorofthedark is 3 for 8 and finished 4th, 1st, 1st in his previous three starts. In his latest start, he finished 4th for a $70,000 purse in the Dade Park Dash Overnight Stakes on July 10.

That was a decent performance following a 4 ½ length $21,200 win on May 17. Back down in class to a level he’s more comfortable, look for Emperorofthedark to get involved.

Energizer is 3 for 13 and coming off a winning performance on August 1. That was a sharp start winning a $21,200 race on August 1. It was a much better result after transferring from Del Mar.

He placed 2nd behind Frolic More by 4 lengths for a $37,300 prize at Churchill Downs on May 13, 2021. Energizer returned a couple of months later at Del Mar, finishing 11th for a $28,000 purse.

The transfer to Mountaineer to beat up on these weaker horses worked out well. Look for Energizer to do it again on Monday night.
