This is a matchup between two of the hottest teams in the NBA. The 76ers are on a six-game winning streak going into Christmas. Meanwhile, the Knicks have been playing good basketball, with wins in eight of their previous nine outings.

The Knicks were riding an eight-game winning streak before a recent 113-106 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. They were in a difficult spot following a win over the Golden State Warriors.

After a big blowout win over the Warriors, 132-94, and a look ahead to the 76ers, the Knicks did not have much to offer against the Raptors. They have a matchup against the Chicago Bulls at home before this date at MSG.

The 76ers most recently had a 113-93 win over the Detroit Pistons, with Friday night pending against the Clippers. After a hard-fought win over the Raptors in overtime, 104-101, the 76ers had an easier time on Wednesday. This is likely going to be a tough game, as well.

76ers vs. Knicks Predictions

Note that the stats and records are pending on what happens Friday night. Both teams have a game to play before getting to this Christmas matchup. Christmas Eve and Christmas is a day off for most teams.

We are trying to take advantage of the early lines before the odds possibly shift on Christmas. TheSportsGeek has you covered with NBA Christmas Day picks for all five games. Let’s look at our pick for the 76ers and Knicks.

Is This Hot Run By The Knicks For Real?

The Knicks are currently playing their best basketball of the season. They have won eight of their previous ten games and had a recent eight-game winning streak. However, the Knicks are only 18-14 on the season.

The Knicks have the sixth-best record in the Eastern Conference going into Christmas. They look like a bubble team for the playoffs so far this season.

If we are just looking at the past two weeks, the Knicks are a lock to go the playoffs, though. With the talent on this roster, they are serious underachievers if they do not get to the playoffs this year.

The offense is lagging behind the defense, which has been a common issue for them over the last few years. They still need to be more consistent offensively. The Knicks are 24th with a 45.8% field goal percentage and 25th with a 33.4% three-point percentage.

Matchup Between Two Physical Defenses

While the Knicks need to be more efficient on the offensive floor, they are pushing teams around defensively. The Knicks have the third-best defense in the NBA based on opposing field goal percentage. Teams are shooting just 45% and 33.7% from three versus the Knicks.

There are not too many holes on this Knicks’ defense. They’ve done a nice job building a strong defense and it has carried over to 2022-23. Before taking the next step, the offense needs to come through.

The 76ers are unlikely to give the Knicks much room to operate freely. This is a well-established 76ers’ defense that works well on the perimeter and in the paint. Even after Ben Simmons left, the defense has not missed a beat.

Philadelphia is the second-best in the league in points allowed. They’ve conceded an impressive 107.4 points per game. The Knicks are good at defending the three, but the 76ers are the best in the NBA.

76ers vs. Knicks Betting Pick:

In a league that covets the three-ball, having a defense that can stop three-point shooters is imperative. The 76ers have this down pat as we approach the New Year. Against a Knicks team that is already struggling to connect from deep, expect the Sixers to lockdown the guards on the outside.

Between the 76ers and Knicks, their defenses have allowed a combined field goal percentage of 45.5%. In the Sixers’ previous five outings, they’ve allowed a wildly impressive field goal percentage of 41% and 103.2 points per game. Note that this includes an overtime game.

The Knicks have contained teams recently, as well. They’ve conceded 104.8 points per game, which includes an overtime game, too. Take out the overtime sessions and the defensive numbers even look better for the Sixers and Knicks.

For our 76ers vs. Knicks prediction, we are looking at a final score of 107-106 on Christmas at MSG.
