Welcome to my EPL Draw value soccer picks, where I’ll be looking to exploit the bookies with value plays for our readers. The Premier League returns from the recent international break and my next draw pick for this weekend features an all-London affair with Tottenham taking on Chelsea in a top four clash in the top flight with a precious three points at stake for both clubs — Kickoff: 1230hrs (EST)
Fourth placed Tottenham play host to third placed Chelsea at Wembley Stadium in a tussle between the two foremost clubs in London right now, although Arsenal are hot on their heels.
Tottenham once again find themselves in familiar territory in fourth spot as they trail the likes of league leaders, Manchester City as well as Liverpool and Chelsea although the latter hold only a single point margin over Spurs ahead of this mouthwatering encounter.
Spurs went into the international break following back-to-back wins over Wolves and Crystal Palace, both of which were away from home which made the wins all the more impressive.
However, this is what Tottenham need to do on a regular basis if they’re to provide a serious challenge to Manchester City for the league title, but with a five point deficit already to City, this represents a must-win but very definitely, a must-not-lose fixture against Chelsea.
Tottenham have won six of their last seven matches overall but crucially their one defeat during this sequence was a narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City.
The hosts have kept four clean sheets from their last six matches which will please manager, Mauricio Pochettino along with the goalscoring exploits of striker Harry Kane (6 goals) who has scored 5 goals in his last 7 appearances in all competitions.
Home Form & Team News
Tottenham’s form at Wembley Stadium this season has so far been fairly indifferent as they hold a record of 2-0-2 5/4 which includes wins against lowly Fulham and Cardiff City but also more importantly, pivotal defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City.
Spurs have lost just three of their last 22 matches at home, two of which were against Manchester City, but they’ll feel they owe Chelsea one as The Blues ran out 2-1 winners in their last visit to Wembley back in August of last year.
Manager Pochettino may need to re-shuffle his defensive line as full-back Kieran Trippier is rated as doubtful for this match with Serge Aurier waiting in the wings to fill in.
Defenders Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose and Davinson Sanchez may also be sidelined but holding midfielder Eric Dier is expected to be fit as is Christian Eriksen who only played 45 minutes for Denmark in a recent international.
Chelsea are enjoying what has been a solid and successful season so far under new manager, Maurizio Sarri as the visitors still remain unbeaten as they make the short trip to Wembley to face Tottenham in this highlight of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures.
Chelsea were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home by Everton prior to the international break and this was a surprise to many who thought that Chelsea had too much quality for the merseysiders.
However, Chelsea tended to dwell on the ball too much and paid for their over-playing which they’ll need to address at Tottenham on Saturday evening.
Nevertheless, Chelsea still remained solid at the back and collected a sixth clean sheet in the process and they are behind only to Manchester City and Liverpool in terms of goals conceded so far this season.
Away Form & Team News
Of their 12 league matches played so far, Chelsea have played only five away from home but for the most part they’ve been ruthless on their travels by recording wins at Huddersfield Town, Newcastle United, Southampton and Burnley although they’ll feel they dropped two points in a 0-0 draw at West Ham United.
On the whole though, we’re seeing a more vibrant and energetic Chelsea outfit under Sarri than we did throughout the latter stages of last season under former boss, Antonio Conte.
Indeed, key players such as Eden Hazard (7 goals, 4 assists) and Willian look like they’re enjoying their football again, and the emergence of Ross Barkley who has shown improving promise each time he takes to the field with Chelsea.
With the exceptions of Ethan Ampadu and Mateo Kovacic, manager Maurizio Sarri has a fully fit squad to choose from and he’s likely to start with Willian and Alvaro Morata in favour of Olivier Giroud and Pedro in the forward positions.
Both teams come into this vital clash having sat out for the last two weeks due to the international break, and both Tottenham and Chelsea also have upcoming Champions League and Europa League commitments during next week. I fancy a point apiece would suit both sides here.
